How to check if your remote controller works

Here is an interesting tip to check if your TV/VCR remote controller works, obviously pointing the remote at your TV/VCR and pressing a button is the best way, but what if you didn't have that option. Try This... Use a digital camera or cellphone camera, and point the remote controller into the camera lens and push a button on the controller - you can see the remote controllers light beam on the camera LCD screen, the camera can see the infrared beam.

The idea seems plausable, I might try it. Thanks for the tip. I've never thought of that before. I used to fiddle a lot in circuits using infrared beams and this is a good way to test the presence of the beams. Good posting.

I know this works from my own personal experience, It's really weird because you can't see any light from the transmitter but the camera can.

Interesting tip, thanks. I wonder if this would work with other infrared devices? I have an old pda that wasn't beaming and this tip could really help troubleshoot it.
