Picture the scene - my 5 yr old cutie is in her bedroom watching a film - I lnow whether she is going to be laughing or crying as soon as I hear her sing! Her favourites are Annie and Wizard of Oz and depending what song you can hear being belted out you know exactly how long til she starts to cry - but then I am a great believer that fiction and film can help us to feel and figure out how emotions work! My favourite is Joseph and I know every word of it - have done for the last 24 years! Do you have a favourite musical film? What is your favourite song from it? Do you not enjoy musical films? Let me know how you feel! This discussion came to me earlier today when we couldn't hear anything all around our house because a certain young lady was belting out 'tomorrow' from Annie!

Growing up without a doubt it was The Sound of Music. I have every song memorized and my brothers and sister and I would do little numbers from it for my family. My mother was really strict about what we watched but if it was a musical we could see it. I loved it. My favorite movie of all time is an 80s musical spoof call The Pirate Movie. I love musicals, broadway, and animated children's film that incorporate song and dance.

LOL Just a little FYI on The Pirate Movie. Um, watch it first before allowing the kids to. It is PG-13 but some of the humor is adult in nature and each parent allows their kids to see different levels of things, depending on the age of the child. :)

Yes I can picture the scene your daughter is having with these films, but I also believe that it is great to let out her emotions. My favourite musical was Sound of Music the first one that came out I was only around 10 at the time but I adore the first musical that I seen. Oh dear you must enjoy your little girl though she sounds beautiful to me.

I am a huge fan of Cabaret. It takes place in pre-Nazi Germany, a story about a American singer/actress and a English writer (of course the stage play is a lot different than that movie). It's definately not a musical to show your children. The story is very dark and depressing and, yet, it's addicting to watch both in movie musical form and in stage form.
I'm also a fan of Annie, Moulin Rouge, Jesus Christ Superstar and Chicago.

Wow, yeah, Blue Hawaii, GI Blues was it? We used to watch them in the school holidays, I loved all that stuff.
I cant remember was it Clif in the Young ones where they had the pirate radio in London, I use to think that being a grown up teenager was like that!
My mum had all the albums from these old films, I'd love to get them on DVD for when Shreks out, he'd never watch them, blesshim - far too cool, lol.

I love the movie Grease and will sing along with all the songs on there. My fav song is summer lovin. I also like the old movie 7 Brides for 7 brothers. I like all the old musicals. I think they ought to make more of the old musicals again.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who loved Seven Brides for Seven Brothers! Growing up, those were about all the kind of movies I was allowed to watch. So when I invited a friend over, who was used to PG and PG-13 films, she was disappointed when I turned the movie on. Halfway through I got tired and wanted to go to bed, but she liked it too much to let me turn it off!

For me, I'm torn between Sound of Music and Grease. But when you ask what your favourite song in the musical is, I can't really come up with a favourite from The Sound of Music... perhaps Lonely Goatherd. But with Grease, well as much as I love them all, I thing Summer Nights (or is it Summer Lovin'?) is my favourite. Or maybe "Hopelessly Devoted". No wait, "Greased Lightening".
Then you go ahead and mention Joseph. Great! I love that too. But not as much as the other too. I prefer song and dance numbers and I guess that means Grease is my favourite.

My favorite musical was Annie for the longest time only to be rivaled by the origianl Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, of course I had to be difficult. My fav song from Annie was Maybe. I kind of fell into line with Willy Wonka, Pure Imagination was my favorite. Now that I am older however, I really like RENT which is not intended for immature audiences.

I like Wizard of Oz, definitely The Whiz (Michael Jackson) & Grease. I know they tried to release a new musical - that High School Musical but it was kind of tacky.
I would have to say that The Whiz would be my favourite but i couldn't tell you a song coz it's been so long since i saw it & it hasn't been released in my region on DVD yet!

Just as the first response, mine are The Sound of Music and Grease. My favorite song from Sound of Music is Adelvise (don't know if I spelt it right) when the dad sings it on the guitar and later when he sings at the end of the movie and the whole auditorium start singing in front of the Nazi's. That is another reason it is one of my favorites, the meaning of it. When I was a little girl I just liked the songs and Lezel, but as I grew older I started to understand the meaning of the movie. On Grese my favorite song is, um well, all of them. I know every word to the whole movie. I love it.

I love The Sound of Music as well; I really do. But I also Love "The Five Heartbeats" a lot; Just seeing those guys singing songs from the sixties just does is for me; I love the Motown sound, and listening to the songs of that time is just a good thing for me; Just like "Dreamgirls", I really like Eddie Murphy performing his songs and having a ball on stage.

who could ever forget maria and capt von trapp and his seven children? who could ever forget julie andrews and christopher plummer? who could ever forget the songs do re mi, edelweiss, climb every mountain, my favorite things, and many more. the sound of music is one of the best musical film ever produced comparable to the biblical film the ten commandments. the more you see the film the more it becomes one of your favorites. that's why i am keeping a copy of the film in dvd format, one of the things we have to treasure.
