For those who use Trillian Instant Messenger, what do you like about it?

If there are anyone that uses this service what do you like about it? What do you dislike about it? I did not see this mentioned in previous topics. I love this program as it combines AOL, Yahoo, MSN and ICQ all in one program so that I can communicate with my friends on various programs at one time and without downloading all the software from the other programs. Saves a lot of space on the computer and it is easy to use. I just noticed that some words are underlined and when you put your cursor over it, you get a Wikipedia definition for that work which is neat. Has anyone thought about trying this program? It is free to use.

I've used it before, and the only thing that really annoys me is that you don't get much of a choice of away messages. Also your icons will get all screwed up if you aren't careful, and sometimes it messes with your profile. But for straight messaging, it works just fine, and it is very convenient. I hope you have good luck with it, I've had computers that didn't like it much but it works okay on my current computer, I don't know what the problem was before. I do like instant messaging as a way to keep in touch, when my friends from college all scattered it became the easy way to talk to each other. (We also have a message board.) Thanks for sharing!

I think their away messages are okay but I can see if others would like more. It depends on which program you are using as yahoo allows you to create your own away message if you wanted to make one. It is definitely convenient and much better than downloading all the different software.

What you mean you don't get much choice of away messages? Trillian gives you the most options with away messages. You can customize them and have as many as you want. Actually, it's very possible you have a limit, but I'm guessing you don't. I've never needed a lot of away messages. I just have a couple custom away messages. Like for when I'm out checking mail or when I plan on being away from the computer for a while.

But doesn't Yahoo have a limit on how many characters you can enter? Or they used to, anyway...

I use Trillian for everything except MSN and IRC because I like the options on MSN better and it's not all that clunky and doesn't seem to hog resources too badly. My computer would grind to a halt if I ever tried to run MSN, ICQ, AIM, Yahoo and IRC all at once and I'm constantly chatting and working in a graphics program so I can't handle that. I've used it for years and it has always done pretty much everything I wanted it to do, but I cant figure out which of my profiles I get random messages to in Yahoo which is annoying cause I just automatically have to reply back as my main name. Other than that I'm more than happy with it.

It is a free to use Joy, unless you wanted the full version. Here is the link where you can download this program for free. http://www.download.com/Trillian/3000-2150_4-10367846.html?tag=lst-0-1

What I like about it is that when you got several accounts, trillian helps you gather it all in one application ... no more sevaral programs open and I can see at a glance which friends are on or if any account got e-amils or not On the down side, you can't use video conference ... you don't have much choices as far as customizing is oncerned and status messages possiblities are really poor to conclude, I would say that when you got several accounts it really helps you save place and time, and is just fine for text messaging But if you want to establish a video conference then the reall thing is better in my opinion So I usually log on trillian to get everybody at a glance, and only launch msn or yahoo if I need to use the video

It is nice not having to open up three or more chat programs to talk to people. One program that can do it all is better even if we lose some features of using the programs separately.

I used to use it and promote it to all my friends. Most are too dense to appreciate the power of combining all onto one though. Or they just have one account at only MSN or ICQ. I have accounts all over so it was handy for me. But I stopped using it since I no longer log on anyway.

I love using this program though you lose some features that you get on the individual programs. It is just so much easier in my opinion to have one program that can do all then using separate programs. I guess if you do not use it, you might as well lose it, right? LOL If all my friends only used one program, then I would not probably have a need for Trillian.

trillian is gud for general chat purpose as logging on in every account u have is a tedious job..But it lacks the special features which an individual mesenger offers..It can be improved and the wiki pedia thing you told is goo..nice topic.:)

I used to be very particular on various features but soon i realized that trillian is one of the best if you are considering your space. I am using that now. Good thing is you can have as many accounts logged in at the same time.

I do feel that trillian is the best or one of the best chat programs since you can use all of them with just the one program and not having to download and run the other ones. It definitely saves space on the computer.

Most of the newest versions of AIM and Yahoo, etc. try to do that now too, combine all the IDs into one. I've never really tried it! lol I tend to use Yahoo more then anything and only have MSN and AOL for certain people. I've never heard of the Trillian one though. Might check it out!

Oh my, I had forgotten all about Trillian, I use to use it years ago, however, I haven't here lately. Thank you for reminding about it. When I had trillian besides combining all the messenger services, I enjoy changing my skins around... I never cared for ICQ, Don't think I would ever deal with that again

I did not care for ICQ either as I used that a long time ago and just never felt comfortable with that program. None of my friends use it either.

I tried it a while ago, though I decided to go back to Gaim who also groups ICQ, MSN, AOL,..Trillion has a nicer interface, but Gaim has more features, in particular it tells you when sbd has removed you from his or her contacts. I also think that trillion only works under windows.

I've tried using this programs before, when the pc here is new yet I don't know how to use it.. So I just stop and change the messenger I'm using.. I did quite have a hard time at that moment maybe probably because I was new to this computer thing..
