I am not sure how many people know about this but it is true. I had purchased my mother to love birds at the local Petco. When we arrived home, one of the beautiful creatures was uncontrollably shaking. When I called them they said it is normal because they need to get used to the new environment. Well, he never seized to tremble and a week later he died. Two days later the pretty girl died as well after cuddling next to the dead bird. I instantly went online and discovered that Petco has been selling not only sick birds but all animals are able to leave their store sick and pregnant without notice to the consumer. I would like to know if this has ever occurred to anyone besides me. It has also happened to my girlfriend.

Large chain pet stores often have unexperienced/uneducated staff.Birds are especially delicate, if they are not properly cared for they become stressed which can quickly turn into an illness. Find out what agency is responsible for licensing pet stores in your area and give them a call. There are a couple of bird illnesses that can pass to humans. Chances are that's not what your lovebirds had, but just to be safe a report should be made to the appropriate agency.

The local Petco in Auburn, Al had a sign on their parakeets that they were not to be sold. My girlfriend was looking for a mate to the bird I sold her. We were told that they birds were sick. We then went to a little shop and bought a bird there. So far, so good. It's best to buy from a breeder rather than a pet shop chain, or a small independent pet shop. The large ones don't care. The small ones have more to lose. I'm sorry for your loss.
