Do you spoil your child? In what ways do you spoil your child? What are some ways that you have seen others spoil their children?

I just have the one son and sometimes it's hard not to spoil him. Yes he gets most things, but not all. He has to earn some of it by doing easy chores like picking up his toys, putting away his clothes, picking up rubbish and things like that. I think I call it rewarding him for good behavior. Some people say that isn't good either but hey, each to their own. Sometimes if he wants something then I say he will have to wait until its his birthday or when christmas comes, cause most of the time I don't have the $$ on hand to buy it anyways.

I think that is fine, and you are doing a good job. I was given pretty much what I wanted, as you describe with your son, as I was also and only child. But I was also taught right from wrong and I just turned out to be a giving person, because my mom inadvertendly (SP?) taught me selfishness and how to give through that.

I tried not to spoil my son, I think I often went overboard at Christmas. I think the worse cases of spoiling I have seen were involving sports. My son played travel hockey, a child did not pack his skates, Dad went to a sporting goods store, bought the kid skates, the child wore them for the game, then Dad returned them - saying they did not fit right. Same team, different kid, the kid did not like the way thefather was coaching, the kid said (age 10) "F*ck you, I could do a better job. Dad said the kid was sitting the bench the next day, did he - nope, the kid got more then his share of ice time.

Here's a link to my blog that describes a case of spoiling that I know of: http://meanmomclub.blogspot.com I know of plenty of spoiled kids and they don't seem very happy. And they seem to like to spread their unhappiness with bullying and stealing, etc. That's why I also started a new website: http://www.askmeanmom.com
