Hey, so I took some French in high school, and was never very good at it (vocabulary is easy, but the grammar drove me batty until I just started trying Yoda grammar, and it usually worked but I still didn't know the rules). Anyways, I'd like to see if I could pick some of it up again, and I was wondering what you guys have had luck with, in terms of picking up a foreign language? Is it Rosetta Stone all the way, have you found you needed a teacher or a group to work with, are you all about workbooks? What works for you?

I worked in Tawain for three years. When I got there for the first, I didn't know a single chinese word. I couldn't even read since they write differently. I couldn't buy a book and study on my own. So, what I did, I always listen to their conversations and asked a Chinese friend who knows a little English. When I learned something, I always used them. I think I'm a fast learner coz in 6 months time, I was able to engage in converstions.

I need a group and sometimes tapes to help me. I took French when I was coming up and loved it a lot, but I noticed when I had kind and helpful teachers who used the language in a number of ways (speaking exercises, one-on-one interviews, group activities) that it helped me a whole lot more in terms of my progression.
