We all know that UN does exists and the functions of UN. Do you feel that UN has any authority and influence on its directives ?? UN had warned America during Iraq war but no use. UN had Warned Israel in connection with Giza violence, no use. UN was against the quick trial and death punishment of Saddam no results. What is the role of UN and why it should be there ? The powerful countries never listen to UN, the rest any way do not need a regulatory body.
Is UN really required ??

Nationalcity, although the UN has terribly failed in its mission to preserve international peace and protect the dignity of all people, I still think that it is a worthwhile vehicle. Any international forum that alleges and/or encourages discussions on world issues is good thing. We all just need to keep an eye on the UN and make sure it not only distribute equal power among all member nations, but show respect for the views of all nations.

Its not just the "powerful" countries that don't listen. The ironic thing regarding the Iraq war was that UN Security Council resolutions basically made intervention in Iraq an obligation to UNSC states, but none but the US really wanted to act on it since it wasn't a problem for any other countries.
The UN only works when members have interests at stake, otherwise they don't care. The UN makes rules, then doesn't enforce them, then they make more rules, but no one cares. So ultimately all the UN is good for is telling people they shouldn't be doing anything and agreeing that AIDS and poverty are bad.
The UN is useless...

I think its useful to have the UN
however, mostly the richest countries control things really
Koffi Annan was amazing I think, it does help feed starving folks sometimes I think

May be they should change the functionalities of UN so that at least the reputation of UN would be better.
