I know it's not a recent film, but I finally watched The Island this weekend with Ewan McGregor and boy what a fantastic, roller-coaster ride of a film it was. My only regret was that it could have been a 15 or 18 certificate so it would have been more scary and shocking.
However the fact of the Island was pretty shocking to know that humans were being bred as organ donors
How would you feel if the Island did exist? Would you pay out money so that you could get a brand new heart, liver, kidneys? What if you had the cash and your son or daughter would die without a donor? Would you spend the money so that they could get the transplant? Knowing where it came from?

wow wolfie that is a toughy! Have never seen the film but I get the gist of it! I would have to say that i view something like this as on a level with the way the Nazis trated jewish, coloured and disabled people! I definitely would not want to use an organ if it came from this type of donor - kill or seiously injure someone to save my own life, espescially some poor innocent - I think not! As you know my children are my life and I would do anything to save their lives but I think I would rather give up my life to donate the organs than to live knowing they were only alive due to anothers suffering!

But buying organs is already a well established way to get organs in some countries .. the gap between ruch and poor countries means that there will always be a ready supply of folks willing to donate an organ for decent money to get out of a poverty trap .. and there will always be rich people who are desperate enough to 'buy' the organ they need to stay alive ..
Just like any other commodity .. if someone needs it there will always be someone ready to sell it .. or supply it whether the owner is willing to sell or not ..
I think many, many people would purchase an organ if they couldn't get it from anywhere legal .. and I doubt too many would wonder where it had come from .. sadly ..

I would do it...that is if I didn't know these people whom I would be getting the organs from. I guess it's just like Africa. If you don't know what is going on in that continent then you would always remain indifferent to the poverty, hunger, and civil war there. The same goes for the situation you stated. If the person from 'the island' is somebody whom I am acquainted with then harvesting their organs (even for a son or duaghter) would be out of question.

I found the film quite shocking but in some ways true to life, nowadays organ selling seems to be happening in many countries.
Breeding humans as organ donors put a shiver down my spine and no i wouldn't under any circumstances buy one, its morally wrong. Some organs you can manage with just one like kidneys and i would gladly donate one of mine to one of my kids if i was a match.

not at the cost of a life... the movie was excellent and the acting superb... but no I would not take a donation if it meant that it came from a human born just to be an organ donator
