First i will start with its effects:
1) Smoking one cigarette immediately raises a person's blood pressure and heart rate.
2) Brain and nervous system activity is stimulated for a short time and then reduced.
3) Appetite, taste and smell are weakend.
4) Smokers experience shortness of breath, presistent coughs, reduced fitness.
5) Smokers have more colds and flu than non-smokers and find it harder to recover from minor illnesses.
6) SMOKING CAN CAUSE IMPOTENCE IN MEN, WHILE WOMEN WHO SMOKE ARE LESS FERTILE THAN NON-SMOKERS.
7) People who smoke tend to have facial wrinkles appearing much earlier and in general, look older than non-smokers of the same age.
Remedies to quit:
1) Keep busy doing things that make it hard to smoke.
2) Fight the urge by going to places where smoking isn't allowed and staying around people who don't smoke.
3) Avoid situations that tempt you to smoke, like drinking coffee or alcohol.
4) Don't give up if you smoke a cigarette. Just resolve not to do it again.
5) Remind yourself that you're likely to feel better if you stop smoking.
6) Tell family members and friends that you need to quit smoking and need their support. If your husband, wife, son or daughter smokes, ask them to quit with you.
Hope that this discussion helps out many and gives fruit to my effort:)))

Smoking is really a addiction and not easy to quit all of sudden. But good thing is there are many rehabilition center for helping to get rid of these habits. Try them and make a great change in your life.

This facts are very informative. I'm just 18 years old, and I've been smoking for two years already. Even though I want to quit smoking, I'm still having a hard time doing it. I don't know, maybe because of the peer pressure. I've already noticed some symptoms, but I'm still a smoker. Anyways, Because of a very busy sched, usually I don't smoke anymore. Hey the remedies are effective, trust me. You'll forget about smoking when you are busy and when you are away from your peers. :]

Nice post ... I have been smoke free for 8 days now! Another thing that could go on your list is to have good motivators! Like having a healthier lifestyle, living longer for your chil(ren), and last but not least think of all of the money you'll save! Also what I often do is after I go for a walk with my daughter I remind myself after that I'm glad I don't smoke anymore because if I did still smoke I'd probably be out of breath, the air wouldn't smell as fresh, and I'd need my inhaler. Reminders of how bad smoking is are a good way of thinking to keeping you positive! On my 2nd day of quitting I passed by a guy having a smoke and I took a deep breath and thought oh I would kill for one of those, but then I thought nope and told myself how bad it was, etc. Then on day 6 I went to Walmart and their was a guy outside having a smoke by the front door because obviously you can't smoke inside the store. Anyways, I smelt it and I started to cough and it was gross! Then I thought woooo hoooo I'm really getting there!
