How do you make a kid go to school?

March 26, 2007 8:07am CST
My kid started going to a daycare nursery recently. After just two weeks, she does not want to go to the nursery anymore.I have tried to explain gently to her why she should go to school/She agrees that she can do painting, colouring, play in the park, everything but simply won't go to school.experienced mums--I need some advice/suggestions.She only goes three days a week, that too half a day.She is mortally terrified that I will take her to the nursery.so much so that she won;t even brush her teeth or take a shower.she starts crying early in the morning and won;t stop until I tell her that she won;t be going to nursery today. Please give me some tips here. Thanks and looking forward to responses from you all.

i believe there must be anunderlaying reason why she dosnt want to go talk with her and ask her why she dosnt want to go there assure her she can tell you anything, remember sometimes daycares have been accused of doing bad things to children, maby talk to other parents and see if there are others have this problem if all is safe there, assure her that you will come back and get her. i had this problem with my daughter in going to school and after investigating we found shw was being treated wayyyyyyyyyyy different than the others, after we got the problem straightned out with the teacher all was fine.

I will definitely take your advice, and discuss with the daycare people.last week,on friday she was crying, sitting in the lap of one of the girls who work there, when I went to pick her up.I was told that she was "upset" the whole time and that this might be because of the routine at the daycare. One of my friend also has her daughter going to the same nursery and she is fine now.I just spoke to her now, and she said that her daughter was like that for two weeks but got adjusted after that.I think I will talk to the people at the daycare.Do you think I should tell them to give me a call if she cries too much the next time? She goes again from this wednesday.

In nursery or preschool most kids love school after getting use to the first few days of being without mom. Once they understand that mom comes back at the end of the day, they relax & love the fun the have in preschool. Since she only goes 3 days a week, perhaps it's taking her a little loner to get use to it, BUT I'd investigate why she's not enjoying this school. Perhaps there is a bully who's teasing her, or even teasing another kid but she's has seen it. Or perhaps she's quiet & feels like the teacher doesn't notice her when she needs something because she's so quiet.

You do have a point.she is very shy, and becomes very silent once she goes outside home.At home and with my friends and their kids she is fine.I guess that might be the problem.I will definitely talk to the daycare people if this is not solved in two weeks time.

Hi,even my son does the same but we never giveup we just stoped him from going to school for a couple of days we made aware of good things which he can grab by going school and then we used to send him and we used to get back him early for the 1st day and used to give him good complements from everyone at home and we used to increase his stay in school gradually. Even the teacher cooperation is mostly important. Survey if she is scared of any kid in the school or with any teacher or with any serventmaid in school and ask her the reason why she says no to school.

i think she was being discouraged, talk to your daughter and ask her whats wrong and try to motivate her to go to schhool and if it doens't work then talk to her teacher and asked her whats the problem of your daughter and try to observe your daughter during her class so that you may be able to know whats her attitude and whats her going in the school.maybe she had fight with one of her classmates or maybe she has been scolded by her teacher..try to observe her and you will find out whats the problem.

i got a son who also goes to nursery school. but on my case he is very enthusiastic whenever he knows its already time to go to school. guess what you can do for the meantime is still talk her about it and that it will be a lot more fun having friends and classmates while still doing the things that she likes to do like painting, colouring, and even playing in the park. guess this helps in some way.

I think the first thing she needs is prayer. I also think you should try and get those movies that encourage children to go to school so she can watch a learn something out of it. You should also try and get the history of great people who did all they can to achieve success so you can use it as if you are telling her a story. I think by doing that, something good will come out. Unlike you, we in africa show some discipline to a child and it makes a child try to do something good. You know children like stories, so get them and tell her. Thanks and have a nice day.

Well,I appreciate your response.Your suggestion of showing her a movie is a good one. Will see if I can find any such good movies. And it is not like we don't discipline here.I don't pamper her at all-I don't have the patience to listen to her every demand and fulfil it in the first place.I also try to keep her as down to earth as possible. And possibly that is why the nursery girls who care for the kids there did not call me up (even though I have given them my mobile number)when she was upset last friday.I think though that I am going to tell them to call me up once if she is too upset and crying all through.

To me it seems like something bad has happened and she is scared. Talk to her teacher and see if they saw anything happen. Maybe someone was mean to her, or took something off her. Try to remember the last time she was there and see if she seemed upset when you picked her up. Ask her why she does not want to go back. Or else it may just be a case of her missing you while she is there.
