Uruguay - Has anyone been there?

Travel is very high on my agenda now. Hoping to go overseas sometime before December. Having a hard time picking my destination. There are so many places I would like to see, but I have become intrigued by South America and especially with Argentina, Uruguay and Ecuador. Argentina because Doug Casey of International Speculator is developing some land there which sounds like it might be an interesting investment/specuation. Ecuador, because land there is apparently about as cheap as anywhere in the Western Hemisphere. And Uruguay because the quality of life there is supposed to be outstanding. And right now, my sights are set on Uruguay. Has anybody been there? Best way to go? Best time? Favorite places---especially in Montevideo and Punt del Este? The ferry to Buenos Aires? Does anyone have info/ideas/interest?
