Yesterday at the office I found this new born baby bird on the ground. I had gone to office for some work and I dont know how I managed to see it struggling on the ground. I had to finish some work so I left it there thinking it would die soon anyway. But when I finished and passed by again it was still struggling. Im a real softy where any animal is concerned so I couldnt just leave it there. I took it home and have been feeding it small pieces of bread dipped in water and trying to keep it warm. Its just been a day and Im already attached to the lil fella although I dont even know what bird he is because he hasnt even developed feathers. So can anyone give me any advice on how to take care of him and keep him/her alive. Im guessing the first week is the crucial period. Help please!

I think you may have to call a vet or a zoo even. I would think that the little bird would need some type of protien. With regular chicks that we raise here, I don't feed them right away as they still have some of mama's yolk in them and they need to digest that first. Then I mash hard boiled eggs with water untill it is sort of runny and mix that up with chick starter. Make sure it is not medicated!!!!!!! OR You can blend up some stale bread crusts or some oatmeal and mix that with the egg mixture. Not too fine as the oatmeal can be like grits to help clean out the digestive system. Birdie needs to be feed about 5-6 times a day. And don't forget fresh water. Put some in a low dish that he can't tip over. I hope this helps a little. I use this method for my chickens, but maybe it will help out you new buddie. Please let me know what happens!!??!!

Please don't assume that your chick still is feeding off the yolk. I would keep feeding him. I re read my post and to me it sounded like you should not have been feeding him. That's not what I meant! Good luck.

I used to always throw bread out for the birds but I've noticed the last few years that they no longer eat it. What does that say for modern bread and baking techniques? My dog will usually eat it, so I'm thinking this bird won't live if you feed it bread.

if i were you id of just called a vet to come collect it i wouldnt of touched it myself i think best thing for you to do is drop it off at the nearest vets and make sure you wear gloves when handling it just incase its got anything nasty
