One of the bigger questions bouncing around in my mind is; Where are we headed and what are we going to do? It doesn't take a genius to work out that Earth is over-populated already and we're still growing. Do you think that we'll colonise space, live more efficiently, or die off in vast numbers? PLease share your thoughts on what will hapen to the human race over the next few hundred years.

at the rate we are going we are gunna blow this planet up before we have a chance to die out, if only we could learn to trust and share instead of being greedy and warlike. with 1 country trying to steal another countries oil or minerals, wont be long and some moron will pop off a nuke and then that will be the end of the human race.

I can certainly see where you're coming from. It's frightening to think that the greediest people are the ones with their fingers over the big red buttons! Do you think a nuclear war would really mean the end of the human race? Things would certainly be a lot different afterward, but i hope against hope that there woould be a few survivors somewhere!

It is sad to sad that what we see now will probably be tame by all standards if we live into the next 100 years. Still too many people unless the viruses and diseases get more virulent. We will be more bad tempered and killing each other off even more. Natural disasters will probably take many lives to add to they diseases numbers too. I just don't see good things happening. We all should learn survival skills and keep friends with those out in the countryside. Far in the countryside. I would hope more would work together and we would take better care of the earth. Stop all the warring, stealing, lying, greed and other things that just bring us down as a group of humans. Hope that this has not brought you down too far. Just my thoughts.

Thanks for the response. You haven't brough me down at all, just mirrored some of the thoughts I have already. I too, think that we are set for even more wars, natural disasters and plagues. It seems that human instinct is to spread, multiply and consume, but we simply cannot continue to do this on earth. I think that the only chance we have as a species is to colonise space. You're completely right about the survival skills though. I have no doubt that mass famine is increasingly likely. I'm actually a prime candidate. I come into my shiny building and type onto my computer / talk on my phone to earn my money, then I take it to the big shiny shops to buy things my family want and need. All it takes is for those shops to not have the food we need and there you have it - mass panic. The worrying thing is that here, and in most other places, the country doesn't have enough food to support the population without the intensive farming methods currently in use.

If we don't blow ourselves up in the meantime that is! Terrorism will continue to rise, as will hatred, things will spiral out of control and either there will be a World War 3 where nuclear missiles will wipe out the world. I don't think we need to worry about global warming because we're more likely to get hit by a meteor. I believe that humankind as we know it will get wiped out by a meteor the same way the dinosaurs did, as for conquering another planet, we don't have the time. We haven't gone much further in space exploration as we're more interested in destroying the planet we are on. Even if we did find another planet whats to stop humans destroying that too?

You have some good points. Humans are so detructive ourselves, we don't really need any outside threats. I like the 'galactic bingo' concept of a meteor. Geologists have found evidence of a handful of these catastrophic events over the milleniae. The usual effect is to smite life back down to a few species and let evolution take place over again. It could be a few million years away, or it could be next week, who knows!

Thanks for responding anyway Gabs. People are living longer, and having more children. That's the dilemma we're all in. There aren't enough resources to keep a population this big.
