Do you think Friendster and the likes invades privacy?

I was just thinking with all those sites that you can go to and search for people you know and you dont know...are we still safe from possible privacy invasion. No offense meant to them but lately I've noticed that if you want to search for someone simply type in their names and viola!! they are there with pictures and others. you can simply just view pictures and laugh at some. What do you think?

There is some information on the web that you may not have posted. For example old phone numbers and addresses may be available if they were ever listed in the local white pages. However, you are in total control of the information that you post on the networking sites. Myspace allows you to make the page private. You can also insist that someone know your last name or email address to add you. If you want to keep something private then don't post it. The sites that I am worried about are marketers that sell your information without your permission. You are then having personal information floating around that you did not authorize and may cause you personal or financial harm.

privacy invasion? i dont think so friendster home page settings give you options wether you wud want anyone to view ur page or only your friends-really your frinds and u cud even apparently limit your profile"about you" thing in your page if u would'nt want people to know you that better and whats the use your friends know you already..^^and for the pics if your thinking with the people laughing ahead well they are just afraid to laugh at first..if youre really the shytype u may not upload pics...you know what. its just as simpe as this---think like friendster is useful like you could search long ago friendships! updates about them..or like if they are that far away friendster could b d best way to keep in touch...dont think the silly side....and you cud even just add friends whom u wanted to add..but you should be very smart enough to know setting on those privacy settings to be able to get the privacy you need...just that! try to explore the world of friendster yo!..its fun! it eradicates your silly fears and all that..^^

Well, joining friendster and other online community sites is absolutely at your discretion. If you don't want to be searched then you have a choice. I joined friendster and hi5 because I want to be reconnected with my old friends and keep track of them. Also you are not sure if your present friends will be with you forever. You might be separated someday and Friendster will keep you connected. Besides, you can limit the information you share about yourself. You can also limit the people who can view your profile and restrict 2nd and 3rd degree friends. The pictures you upload are meant to be view by others. If you don't want others to see it, why upload it there? I am so much thankful to friendster because I found long lost friends that other names databases failed to do.

It could invade some privacy but it's still up to you. I have a friendster account and I set the proper settings that only my friends can view my profile. It's possible. Also, I don't put all my personal information there. It is to secure and to keep something from you. You are the owner of that account. So, you should be responsible for it to protected. We can't deny that there are really abusive users. We should keep away from them. Let's have friends and do our blogs in the safest way possible.
