Adopting... grandparents

Have you ever heard of Tatarstan? It's a small republic in Russian Federation. I've recently heard in the news that there was launched the following experiment: people were offered to adopt... lonely elderly people living in the retirement homes. I think it's great! In the news they showed some families who explained why they would like to take completely strange people to their homes - they would love to take care of them and to give their children grandparents whom they hadn't. Just imagine, there are so many elderly people who have to live alone, and there are families who are eager to accept them as relatives! What do you think of this?

When I was a teenager we use to go to the local nursing home and "adopt" grandparents. We would go every Saturday afternoon to visit or play games. It was a truly wonder experience that I think I would love to introduce to my children so I would like to thank you for reminding me of that experience.

What a wonderful idea, I know one of the biggest problems and concerns of people growing old is being put in homes and forgotten. Elderly people have so much love and knowledge to share with the younger generations it's a shame it isn't taken advantage of more. The month before last I was asked to help an elderly couple who couldn't manage in their apartment on their own any longer and were waiting for an apartment in an assisted living home. I filled in between 'daughters' that also came to help so was only there a week but during that week I was so blessed. I learned daily, the couple had been missionaries in Africa for 25 years so I learned about Africa along with learning more about ministry and Christ. I also felt so very much love it was like my grandparents were alive again.

i think this is a wonderful idea. i think it would help both sides. there are so many elderly people without families and too many kids grow up without grandparents. and younger people can learn so much from older adults. their stories are wonderful and educational. i can say i am pretty sure that is a very good idea.more people and countries should do it.

This is an interesting idea. Ive heard of alot of primary schools adopting a similar idea, where the school children adopt a grandparent and visit them on a weekly basis. Im all for it.
