How Do You Deal With Stress?

Stress is a funny thing. It affects each of us in different ways. Some people get aggressive while others just cry like a baby. We often need to take a step back and look at where we are going to keep the stress level at a controlable range. I have noticed that at different times in my life, I tend to deal with stress in different ways. I am not dealing as well as I did when I was in my 20's but that is to be expected. How do you deal with stress? I have joke that I would like to share with you today and Hope that it will help you laugh. Remember laughter is a great stress reducer. Enjoy! A woman went to a walk-in clinic, where she was seen by a young, new doctor. After about three minutes in the examination room, the doctor told her she was pregnant. She burst out, screaming as she ran down the hall. An older doctor stopped her and asked what the problem was, and she told him what happened. After listening, he had her sit down and relax in another room. The doctor marched down the hallway to the back where the first doctor was and demanded, "What's the matter with you? Mrs. Tracy is 59 years old, has four grown children and seven grandchildren, and you told her she was pregnant?" The young doctor continued to write on his clipboard, and without looking up, asked, "Does she still have the hiccups?"

I sometimes start crying, and then I like to get away by myself. Sometimes I drive over to the mall and just walk around for a while, or if the day is sunny, I take my bike and go for a ride. (I am getting up there in years, so sometimes that can be a bit stressful in itself, but it does seem to help.) I guess taking my mind off whatever it was that caused the stress is what I am seeking. Even though the problem is still there later, it doesn't seem quite so bad when I come back to it.

I think an easy way to deal with stress is to take a deep breath listen to music, relaxing music, or do something you enjoy that doesnt require a lot of thinking.

Usually a drink of water will do the trick, but I think that young doctor may have cured any hiccups I would have had!! Stess is a funny thing, being that there is good stress and bad stress. Our bodies don't really know the difference. Looking forward to Christmas is good stress, whereas waiting to hear from a doctor may be bad stress. Physical exercise helps with both kinds of stress, because it uses up excess hormones that are released during times of stress.

I don't think looking forward to Christmas is a kind of stress. It belongs to a kind of hope or wish.

I don't deal with stress well. I have anxiety attacks or what some people call "panic attacks". I used to take medication for it for several years but stopped around three years ago, due to no medical insurance. This past week, I had a terrible panic attack while driving to work and almost had to pull my car over to the side of the road. I just didn't know what to do, so I started doing deep breathing exercises while driving and started praying. I somehow managed to get there but was really shaken and had a hard time. I don't even know when I'm stressed and the smallest thing can set it off. I just don't want to start the medicine again but I'm afraid I may have to. I walk several days a week but sometimes that just isn't enough, I guess depending on your level of anxiety.

Good grief!!!!! That would cure more than just hiccups for me. I like to bake when I am stressed. It takes my mind off of other things. And I think the aroma of baking has a cathartic effect on me. I also get a "fix" of comfort food. Brushing my dogs or my horses is another way I de-stress. Maybe because it is so rythmic. I chat away at them while I am brushing them and they just seem to agree with everthing I have to say.

I have meditated for many years now and I find that when I am really stressed that If I begin to breath as though I was meditating I almost instantly makes me feel better. A physcologist sugested thst my body has learned to associate that breathing pattern with being calm.

When I am stressed, what I did was I took a walk around where I live. I also spoke with my wife and she relieve my stress. Sometimes I also play games or I can even read the magazine or even surf the internet. I look for jokes over the internet that it will relieve my stress. It's best that I don't stress too much because it will have bad effect on my health.

I would have fainted in that situation, but that was a strange was to get rid of hiccups. Stress and I don't get a long, and we have an agreement to try to stay away from eachother as much as possible.

Stress tell me about it. Aside from getting strees at work it sometimes triggers my hypertension aswell so i really need to monitor it and do some excercise if i'd still like to live a little longer in this world, lol. sometimes i do a long walk going to work and also when going home just to do a simple cardio exercise. i had gone to the gym a couple of times but then again after a few sessions you get too lazy of even going there again.

I know alot of the ways i deal with stress is wrong like being aggreessive withdrawn. And responding to stress by crying what is that gonna help just makes me feel worse. Alot of times now i just through myself deeper into things i am doing like my gym workouts or working on the puter and i am not sure how good that is but it is better than the way i was acting towards my stresses before. It is hard but i am getting somewhat better at dealing with it.

I write, the more depressed or stressed out, I am the better my writing tends to be. I am on my third book now and though it was off to a slow start, I am on a roll right now. I also sing even though my song can't stand my singing, and I do biofeedback to relax my nerves.

Hi Villageane that was a cute joke. I too deal with stress alot differently then I did when I was younger. I dont know if its a good thing or bad thing. I usually hold it all in and then I cant stop crying. And sometimes I scream and I cant stop it. Like you said stress is certainly a funny thing.

LOL That was a nice joke village and it sure did take my mind off something I was worrying about. :) Stress comes uninvited and we should be prepared to handle it otherwise things can just go from bad to worse. To tell you frankly I've not experienced "stress" as such, small things come my way but I feel compared to what others go through I'm better off. I'm still young and haven't seen life at large. I lived with my parents till I got married and never knew what it was to be totally stressed. Parents were like a barrier between me and the toll-taking stress. I'm thankful for that and though they shielded me, I have been brought up to be independent for most part. I know I will face more trials in future, I'm prepared for them.

We have our own way to deal with stress and there are many ways to overcome them. My great stress reliever is sleeping. I just sleep for a long while and once I wake up, I'm regenerated! Watching anime series would also do the trick.
