I think some of the things we say, they understand. Did you ever notice when you caught your cat doing something that you told them was wrong, they act funny. When you tell them not to do something, they just look at you. I think that they also go by your tone of voice. They are interesting.

I think they understand things we say over and over. If I say, where is your ball, Snoopy, my cat will go find it wherever it is. If I say down, when she is climbing somewhere she shouldn't be climbing, she may look to see if I mean it but she gets down if I maintain eye contact with her to let her know I meant it. One of my friends has a tiny little dog and when she says, "Do you want a carrot?" he runs to the refrigerator and waits for her to come and get him one of those little baby carrots.
