South park tends to have better stories rather than just clips of memories and stuff that Family Guy does. The comedy is more mature and addresses serious political issues rather than just random topics.
I watch both shows religiously, so don't get me wrong. I will watch either one.
What about Futurama, American Dad, and the Simpsons? They all rank up there for me. Each has a different, special subject that they address.

Just had to say, out the three others you listed, Futurama was the best and most under-rated.

when i watch animated tv shows i tend not to notice serious political issues, like michael jackson on south park...yeah thats real politic hehe no offense. family guy makes fun of politics badly and that's what is so great. but in all seriousness i think family guy and south park are the best on their networks =D

I have to say it will be South Park because it was real funny when they're insulting someone, but that may be very rude but very funny. And Cartman... I hate him but he is quite a main character of this show.

South Park owns Family Guy. South Park is more controversial and makes fun of politics, celebrities, etc. While Family Guy is just characters being stupid so South Park is much better than Family Guy. The characters are funnier too (i.e. Cartman).

I have to be honest and say that I've watched just a few minutes of both but if I had to choose it would definitely be Family Guy. I think that's a riot. I just don't watch adult cartoons much. There's usually something else on another channel. I just don't care for South Park. It's just that Family Guy is much more to my taste in TV.

Well, they both have their strong and weak points, but if I had to choose just one, I would say South Park.
First off, it is just funnier. Trey Parker writes parody and satire so much better than Seth McFarlane.
Secondly, it's jokes actually fit into the story. Family Guy uses a cookie cutter formula where you just have to insert a joke after certain quotes; That was worse than the time I (insert joke here). It's just too simple.
Also, Family Guy relies mostly off Stewie and Brian, where South Park uses everybody. SP also has a lot of social commentary that Family Guy is just missing.
