does anybody here double clutch when they shift? i have been told by many people that it is better for your gear box and was just wondering who out there is really doing it? i have tried it but it seems to take too much time and effort especially when I am trying to merge or accelerate

Unless your driving a big truck like a 5 ton with standard shift, double clutching is not necessary. The gear boxes in cars and light trucks are made to withstand shifting gears with a single clutch depression.
Take care Emendblu.
