water foutain for dogs?

i recently bought a cavalier king charles spaniel from a breeder and she told me she has a fountain for the dogs that constantly keeps the water moving and circulating through a charcoal filter so the dog does not get sick i guess... has anybody tried one of these on their dog? does it really matter? i give it the same water i drink, i cant imagine it can be that bad for her.
