I took my son to the zoo for the first time today. It was an okay trip despite the rain. Our zoo has a new gorilla exhibit and it's all enclosed so I was able to take him out and let him look at the animals up close. I think it's the only exhibit he really paid much attention to because all the movement in his stroller put him to sleep. Does anyone have any memorable first zoo trip stories about their kids?

im not a parent but I remember going to the zoo when I was litle and I loved it. I loved seeing animals and I still think its such an awsome thing. I mean, when do you ever get to see a Lion in real life? Only at the zoo. Im happy I use to go to the zoo so much when I was younger because it made me appreciate and love them so much to this day. I would love to work at the zoo! My grandma told me years ago she took my dad to the zoo, and they had a thing where they could go in the car and monkeys would jump all around the car and one threw poo at them! LOL! I would have been dying laughing!

My son loved Giraffes when he was small. His first trip to the zoo, he just wanted to stand and watch them for hours. Unbeknownst to even the zoo staff, one of the females was giving birth right there in the enclosure while we watched. He was sure that this happened every day, and was really surprised when I told him that, no, this was a once in a lifetime thing at the zoo, becuse they usually take animals who are about to deliver into a maternity section and they give birth in peace.

Yeah, we noticed a sign on the river otter exhibit that she may not be out and about as she was due to give birth late this month and had constant access to her holding area. Needless to say, she wasn't out today. You know I read on a sign by their habitat that the babies aren't born instinctively knowing how to swim. The mother teaches them! How cool!
