DOUBT The word doubt is used when you are in two minds, or when you are not sure of something. You can doubt whether or not something is true, but not have a definite leaning one way or the other.
SUSPECT Suspect is used when, even though you are not certain, your leaning is one sided. If you suspect something is untrue, it means you are more convinced it is untrue than it is true.

As verbs, both suspect and doubt connote uncertainty about somebody or something. The only difference between them has to do with the 'inverted' way the sentences containing them have to be constructed to signify the uncertainty. For instance, "I doubt that you are telling the truth" means "I suspect that you are telling a lie". While doubt usually goes with a positive attribute in a sentence, suspect goes with a negative one, as the sentences above show. As nouns, however, they convey differente meanings. A suspect is a legal term for somebody suspected as having commited a crime while a doubt is a condition of not being sure or certain, and does not have to be about anything relating to a legal matter.
