Why do some people recommend salt water baths?

My friend told me salt is one of a number of ingredients which can be added to your bath for a special effect. Do you bath with salt water? What is your experience?

Salt (sodium chloride) is a water softener. Most commercial water softeners contain sodium chloride. We use to haul it out of Utah to the different companies when my husband and I drove the 18 wheeler.

I have never heard of anything like that. Why did she tell you that must be for something specific. Infact even when we go for a swim in the sea we come back and have a shower with the sweet water. I am still wondering why she said that?
