How long can you hold your breathe underwater?

I'm just curious if you're the type of person who can hold his or her breathe more than a minute when you're underwateR? Diving is an exceptional here ok? JUst the mere holding back of your breathe when you don't have to put some oxygen on.
When I was still 11 years old, that's when I started to learn how to swim. I enrolled in a swimming class and part of the lessons was to teach us how to be able to hold our breathe in a longer period of time. I can still remember, it was always in a form of a contest and that was part of our warm-up exercise before we're gonna do the whole swimming session. I remember that I can hold my breathe averagely between 30-45 seconds.
However, since the time wherein I haven't swam regularly anymore, I couldn't hold my breathe for a longer time. The last time I went swimming with friends last month, I have tried holding back my breathe underwater in a pool, and it was only for 10 seconds. Oh my! Guess I need to go back to swimming again and swim that regularly. Whew! :)

I don't know how to swim at all. I couldn't even manage to stay in a pool or in a beach for a longer period of time. Averagely, I can only stay about 30 minutes in a pool and lesser than that when in the beach. This is because I have my sinusitis. SOmetimes it is triggered by the wind in the beach shore or when I'm in a water for a longer period. How I wish I can even hold my breathe underwater. I think it takes a lot of practice.

Well, I love holding my breathe underwater, really!
It could seem stupid, but when I go to the sea, I always have fun holding my breathe underwater, people are very surprised seeing me doing such things.... I can hold it more than a minute, once I was underwater and I was counting the seconds, when, at a certain point, a girl took my elbow. I came out of water and asked her what she wanted. She told me that she thought that I felt bad because I was underwater too time!!!!

did the same thing when i was young. I usually stay underwater and time myself on how long can i hold my breath. The longest, as far as i can remember , was around a minute. But after that I never tried doing it again when i grew up. Maybe i'll try it next time i go swimming. Holding your breath is bad for your health, you might get stroke because you don't get much oxygen in the body.may be i wont test myself again' it's to risky. Our body needs oxygen all the time. I don't wanna deprive myself of oxygen hahaha.I am sorry for that.Goodluck!

I learned how to swim when I was very little. Swimming has always been a part of my life and I have worked at a swimming pool store for the last 3 summers. When I was younger my friends and I would have contests to see who could hold their breath the longest. I am faily sure I used to be able to hold my breath for a minute, but surely not now.
