I think thatdepends on the couple in question. Honestly i think that an engagement that lasts as long as ittakes to plan the wedding and actually get to church or where ever you are holding it is long enough. Then again that is just my opnion.

Long engagement depends on the transparencies of the couple. But I personally do not favor for it. For me short or long engagement is the smae. If compatibility does not show then long engagement is useless. I'd been there. I was engaged for five years, then got married and separated after 15 years. Reason: WE DISCOVERED THAT WE ARE REALLY NOT COMPATIBLE TO EACH OTHER. I envy my friend who met her husband and got married after three months. They are now in their 30th year of their marriage. Do you know what I mean now?

ohhh nice thought of you madam.I agree with you. The success of ones relationship dont depend on how long you've been engaged.Long or short engagement is just the same. :) Thanks a lot! :)

In my opinion a long engagement is a year. I think it lessens financial pressure and pressures of planning the wedding. I also think it gives you another year to get to know each other and possibly stop you from getting married for the wrong reasons or avoiding a divorce later on. I can see a longer engagement if one or both of you are finishing school.

I am in favor of a long engagement for a couple reasons. One - you make sure that you two are very much in love and still get along after so long, so you don't get married and find out wait we don't get along. Two - you can then plan a wedding that you want instead of just throwing things together.

I personally would not like to have a long engagement but I think so many ocuples are having to do it now because they are going to be paying for the wedding themselves and need to time ti save. It must be difficult now that traditions are fading.

Yes I agree with you! Thats one factor why some couple nowadays choose to have long term engagemant..They still want to save enough money for thier wedding expenses. Thanks killah :)

Yes to make sure that you are in love. That it is meant to be. Because I been engaged off and on for 10 year and I dont know if i really want to be in the marriage. Because I want to make sure that im doing the right decision. So if you are ready for a commitment then go ahead and get married to your partner.

If I ever get engaged again it will be for along time. Like at least 4 or 5 years. I got married to soon the first time.

Before my marriage i was waiting 4 years and this time i was thinking is enough to know the future husband. I think is good to know the person which you choose for live a life with you,but i am also sure if there is about your soul mate you can have a happy marriage without waiting so much... augusta

Yes i am in favor of long term engagement. Its matter to all life to live along with your partner to be. So you must get to know more about liking, disliking of your partner.
