Hello Everyone.......
Do you know how to recognise a garbage discussion ??
Do you know how to do your part to improve mylot ??
In the do's and don'ts list mylot explains what is allowed and what is not allowed. They need AND REQUEST our help locating the garbage discussions and responses that need to be removed.
You are not following mylots policies if you do not rate some things negatively or report the things that should be removed.
There are a great many excellent discussions to be found here but they are sometimes difficult to find because of all the worthless crap, garbage and spam. Please do your part to improve this forum and the time we spend here.

Good topic, Tom. We do need to be vigilant if we want to keep this site intelligent and fun. As I've said before, I report and report and report until I feel like I am being a tattle tale. Glad to know others are as fed up with the junk as I am.
And you are right, not reporting and allowing a bad post to remain is as bad as making a bad post yourself.

Ihave rated a few discussions negatively in my time... though I must say I never reported any discussion, because I couldn't find one that needs to be reported.
Anyway, I'll read the dont's list again to make sure I know all the rules.

Hello stvasile....
There are postings everyday that are against mylot policies. Learning how to recognise the ones that need to be reported is very easy. Everyone who cares about improving the quality of this forum should make it a priority to educate themselves on how to get rid of the worthless garbage.
If garbage posting are allowed to remain those writers earn the same as people who post quality work. Is that fair to the writers of quality material ???
As long as mylot is wasting money on garbage postings, writers of quality work have no chance of increasing their earnings.

Nrnot: I think this is a very interesting discussion you have going here and of these there are few. You are right about the garbage especially those one line discussions asking silly questions? and of those there are manyLOL .. Mylot should set up a picture of a garbage can, then the - then the + and all those who think the discussion posted is garbage should hit that picture and then the hits should be counted and taken action on by mylot .. Just an idea. Well you keep up the good work and keep discussions like this going because I see you have a lot of people going and commenting on this and this is good. Oh Im the one that gave you the big + because I think your post earned it so I rated it. Im sure the others agree with me. I sincerely hope otheres who read this post will take action and start reporting the silly one liners that are posted and saying nothing...

Hello lilyruth......
You are right about the one word or one line answers being of low quality. It can seem that whoever writes answers like that really doesn't take a full minute to write something worthwhile. The only way to get them to provide more of a response is to have those responses removed often enough for them to realize that it can affect their earnings. Then and only then do they actually take notice.

This is really good tom, as I know that by this post, most mylot members would really do their part!;)
I've been reporting rubbish posts and nuisance mylot members eversince I was here, and I have tons reported just this past week. I just can't stand what this people are really up to here, and why they ignore the rules provided to us by mylot.
Thanks and good day..

Hello raijin....
Thank you for responding favorably. I see so many postings that are against mylot policies every time I log in here that it can be difficult to find the quality discussions. I feel that working together we can have a real impact on improving the quality of this forum.

This time I am being told that I am not doing my fair share here. For one, I am not very familiar with the mylot guidelines. Second, I do not know yet how to go about and around mylot yet. I have so many shortcomings, it is not wise to enumerate them here. My children are helping me around because I ask them to. It seems that I am hard of learning already. I know that there are some much older than I am who are still doing fine. But, it so happens that I do not belong to their category. When it comes to the intricacies of the computer, I find some hard time coping. Okay, I am considering finding out about the guidelines and helping in getting rid of those spammers in the process.
Days ago, there was one discussion which I responded to only to find later on that it was a copy paste from someone else's. You should know how it feels - I was disgusted and angered. I made the person who posted it originally know about it for him/her to take proper action. Funny of me. I did it wrong. The report should have been given to the mylot authorities. Now I know better.

Hello Trinidad.......
Not knowing what to do is very different from refusing to do your part.
I understand completely how difficult it can be to learn and remember how to use these darn computers, I just began learning a few years ago. There are many, many things that I really don't understand about them. Navigating many of the websites is confusing and I sometimes wish they were all set up identically.
I am dyslexic....reading and typing at times, is nearly impossible. Every time I blink the keyboard looks different. The backspace and spell check are the keys I use the most.
Everyone learns at their own pace. Do not be discouraged by a few inconsiderate comments.

Good topic, Tom!
Yes, I know how to recognize a "garbage" discussion-- the ones that are straight copies from an EXTERNAL source are a little easier to spot than those copied from WITHIN myLot. It seems quite clear that a large number of people have never taken a moment to read the guidelines-- sometimes it would almost seem like the first time they are even aware there ARE guidelines is when they get a warning from myLot admin.
I know a lot of myLot members, some of them "good people" say that those who report trash discussions and cheating just need to "get over themselves," and "lighten up" but in my opinion (rules notwithstanding) they miss the point.
This is a web site lives on "user generated content." And they PAY users for that content. The ONLY way that business model works (as in, the company stays in business and ends up making a profit) is when the site content is INTERESTING enough, and of sufficient QUALITY that a random person finding the site will say "Hey, this is pretty cool, I think I'll look around here for a bit." As such, what we are doing when we report and downgrade the "trash" is basically "protecting the goose that lays the golden eggs."

Hello Denmarkguy.....
I agree completely. If nothing ever gets reported or rated negatively this forum would be flooded with:
What's your favorite color?
How old are you?
Coke or Pepsi ?
Chicken or egg first?
And other postings that are just as worthless. These are NOT "quality" discussions. There are many, many intellegent members here......with 85,000+ it shouldn't be difficult to find something worthwhile to read and respond to.
Thanks for your input....

Great post. Make sure to use that ! when someone is rude, nasty, one word, pasting, copying, and all the other broken rules. Also, rememeber to rate + for good ones and "best response". I have rated you Tom, a + for a fine posting. Keep it up.

Hello margieannaart........
Thank you.
I really appreciate it considering that
right now there is another similar discussion where I have tried to point out these exact same ideas and I am getting raked over the proverbial coals for even suggesting that people should rate something negatively.

It's nice to see that I am not alone in the feeling that there is so much abuse of this system here at mylot. I too have reported plagiarism at least once each time I log into mylot. That is a pet peeve with me.
As you may know I had told a "friend" that I was deleting them since they continued to plagiarize once they reached the magical 500 post level. That person has destroyed my reputation by going back through my posts and rating them all negatively. This means that my payment is now not even $.01 per post. Although I reported this to mylot this user continues to plagiarize and my good posts are not rated or paid fairly.
This has left me with a very bad taste for this site in general and I find that I'm not nearly as interested in posting, until I find a discussion such as this which gets me going again.
I think it is very important for us to be diligent in rating/reporting discussions however I don't think that people realize how this too can be abused.

Hello yscwid......
Real sorry to hear that you have been assulted like that. Plagerism is running rampant on-line, people think they can just take anything and present it as their own. It is theft, plain and simple.
Writers of spam and garbage earn the same as writers of quality postings. WHY IS THIS ALLOWED ????????????
I really hope mylot addresses this issue soon.
Tom
