What is with the private message spam??!!

I've had 5 people, in the last few weeks, request my friendship. As soon as I okay the request, I get a message filled with referal links. In other words? Spam!
Getting pretty tired of this. I usually delete these people ASAP. If I wanted referral links, I'd have solicited them myself! It's becoming obvious that many people are out to use myLot to spam others, in both private messages and discussions.
What I always want to do is report the message as spam, or report it like we can posts. However, with private messages, all you can do is delete them.
How do you handle this?

Yes you did the right thing there. Just delete those who sent out private messages containing ONLY referral links. These days i just accepted anyone who request me as friends. But maybe i should delete those who requested just to spam out my inbox.

I get very annoyed when this happens to me and it has happened to me loads! I somehow changed my settings (please dont ask me how because I managed it through fluke) and people who are not on my friends list cannot send me private messages or post on my profile. Im so happy I did it but I hope i dont accidently undo it again! ha ha ha

this is just so typical. I get those as well and I have started to deny people to become my friends unless they have participated in my discussions. I am not going to make friends and then just have to end it coz they are spamming me with stupid referal links =)

I've had the same issue with friends lately and it is getting annoying. I delete the messages they send me, I delete them from my friends list and then I report anything they may have posted on the boards as spam (if it really is spam) and give them a negative rating. I don't think we can do too much about them and their spam.
