I've got a question about depression...

Currently I am dealing with clinical depression due to the events in my life from my past and current problems (felony arrest from past, currently separated from wife and children and facing a divorce, etc.) and I am currently taking 300 mg's of Effexor daily. When I first started I was only taking 150 mg's a day.
At first the drug seemed to work and it seemed to "balance" me out. I don't know how else to discribe it other than that. It didn't make me happier but I felt I was able to better handle my emotions and mood swings that caused me to become depressed. Later dur to the more recent problems I've been dealing with, my medication was up'd to 300 mg's.
But because of the more recent events I'm dealing with right now, I find my will, my energy has been almost sapped from my body. I sometimes feel physical aches and pains in my body, and while I am a 37 year old man, and I know that as I get older, my body might have more aches and pains, to me...it doesn't feel...natural.
I saw a recent commercial in which said that if you are experiencing stuff like this and are still suffering at times to where the depression might kick back in or you might be experiencing aches and pains or other problems, that I should consult with a doctor to see if the medication might not be the right medication and you may need a different anti-depressant to help fight the effects of depression.
Ok, here's the question I'm asking...has anyone else here experienced this and has ALREADY gone through this and talked to a doctor regarding this? The reason I ask is I would like to know what questions I should ask my doctor first regarding this so I can be prepared before I go in and know what to tell him. Also, has anyone else seen that commercial I talked about? The reason I'm asking is I know it gave a website regarding questions to ask and things to discuss. Does anyone know what that site is?
Thanks!

I know exactly what commercial you're talking about. It's usually on during some of the late night shows i watch so I'll back to you if I catch it tonight.
I can't say much about what you're feeling because I haven't experienced that myself. I do know, and you probably know this already too, that depression does often cause physical aches and pains. My s/o also thinks it's just an age problem, he's 41. I discussed this with our doctor and she agreed that many of the things he was experiencing COULD be from depression. The problem is there is often a cycle involved and it's hard to figure out what actually started it. Like for him, he aches, which makes him feel down, feeling down makes him sit around or sleep all day, sitting around makes him ache, and so on and so on. When you talk to you doctor you should probably say just what you said here. The medication "balances" you, but you are still having symptoms and want to find out if there is a better medication for you. I'm sure he/she is well enough experienced in treating depression to be able to help you figure it all out. Good Luck and (congratulations?) for seeking help!

What you are dealing with is not only depression... but stress.
It is the stress which causes the pains. Your muscles get tied into a knot.
I have been dealing with stress problems since 1991... without medication. It is also the stress which cause the depression.
From what I have been told... anti-depressants just knock you out by numbing your brain. For my part... I don't want any medication which is going to do that to me.
It is a hard struggle to live with stress and depression. I have to fight it everyday to get things done. My solution is not to let things get to me and avoid stressful situations. If I had a cure... I would gladly give it to you. But like I said... I have been dealing with this for 16 years and the only thing the doctors can do for it is to give you some addictive medications to zonk you out.
The only choices you have is to learn to live with it... and to do it on your own... or with medication.

i think the best way to get out of ur depression is to interact most of the time with your to whom you thing are your best friends and who helps you always, you are facing a kind of depression but it is only temporary,it is only in ur mind so try to take off those thoughts from ur mind which make u weak.

Actually I am also a victim of this mental problem called Depression. But the reasons for getting it are different. I have Subclinical Hypothyroid. Due to that Depression comes as a symptom of that. I have found that, if I take the medicines for thyroid, like Thyronorm 50 mg, or 25mg, then I do not feel lethargic or depressed at all.

Sorry to hear you are experiencing these problems.
Depression medication usually works by supressing your emotions so instead of getting really happy about somehting or really sad you just stay neutral all the time. Sometimes the body can become immune to medication we take over some time so sometimes if you feel its stopped working best to get your doctor to review it. Also with every medication there are side effects, such to see if any of the new symptoms are listed as side effects on the leaflet you get with them and if they are that is a definate reason to go to your doctor.
When you visit your doctor think about what you want to get out of it before hand. If there is someone you feel comfortable with you can always bring them along and then if you forget anything after or are confused they might be able to remember. Think of a list of questions before hand and write them down then when you are talking to your doctor if you get side tracked and forget you have something to remind you.
Also check out http://www.depression.com/ they have some good information on depression and ways you can get help. There is also a list of support groups avilable which might be of some help to you.
