An internet access question...

Occasionally, when I try to access a website, I get a "Forbidden" message... It states that I don't have permission to access [the website] on this server and usually refers to "Port 80".
First off, What's port 80?
Secondly, why would I not have permission to access a public site that others can with no problem?
I'm guessing it has something to do with my security settings, but I've searched all over my Mac Mini and can't find any settings that would restrict content. And it's not like the latest "Forbidden" website would have "mature" content or anything (it's a cross-stitch site).
Any other Mac users out there have any ideas or suggestions?

Just like a shiping port, computer ports acts the same. Trafic In, Trafic Out. if you are receiving "Forbiden Access", it means that you don't the proper authorization to view or access the website. The site maybe protected against anonymous access.

Yes, to a certain degree you do have access to some pages. but not to certain pages that needs authentication or is for special access only..

I also get this on some sites where I am a member, so I don't think I would be considered "anonymous". I can access some of the pages, but not all of them. It's frustrating.

First off, port 80 is the port that your sever listens to. And the reason that you are getting an error message is most likely due to the fact that your security settings are set to where this site does not fit with your current security settings. Try setting your Internet settings on default and see if that works.

Are you a Mac user? Could you tell me how to do this? Because, as I said, I've looked all over and really can't find anything. I know there's something somewhere that "allow[s] mature content" because I've run into it at least once, but where the heck it is, is beyond me at this time.
Thanks for your help so far.
