Miniature dachshund attacks infant?

The reason there is a question mark there is because the situation is questionable. A woman in Texas has a 7 week old baby boy and an 8 lb. miniature dachshund. She is a drug addict, however the boy was born healthy and drug free and his father claims the mother was in love with the baby. He also said he was concerned she was using drugs again. Apparantly this woman fell asleep in a drug induced stupor and woke up to find the baby bleeding profusely. She claims the dog ate this 7 week olds genitals and chewed his leg. The police started investigating and found that the wounds to the infant were to "neat" to have been from a dog. She is now in rehab, tested positive for cocaine and methadone and is refusing to cooperate with the police. As of yet, no charges are filed. All accounts say the dog was gentle with the baby and often slept curled up next to him. This was yet another news story that disgusted me. The boy is going to need extensive surgeries and may never walk, not to mention he's now missing his genitals. I think it all points to the mom, and I think the authorities should file charges against her. The father was at work at the time and claims he had threatened to take the baby and leave her the day before this occurred. Do you think the police should be giving this woman the benefit of a doubt by not filing charges? Isn't there someway to force her to cooperate? What would be a suitable sentence for this crime? Frankly, I'm appalled that a mother could do this to her son.

We have a miniature dachschund that I can never imagine him doing that to someone much less a baby. They are very gentle dog. He is very gentle with my daughter even if my toddler tease him all the time. When forensics nowdays, authorities can definitely find out who did the damage and judging by the reports, it is impossible that the dog had done it. If the mother refuses to cooperate then she is guilty. If I am the mother and it is the welfare of my child, I will cooperate 101% percent. She should be punished because no mother on her right mind will harm a child to that extent. She needed to be taught a valuable lesson.

We have two dogs that get tortured by our two little ones also. They are large dogs, and I couldn't ever imagine either of them turning on oour child. Criminy, we had to wrestle the one out of the car because she wanted to come to the hospital when I went into labor with my son! SHe hasn't left hios side in 17 months, not to mention how protective she was while I was pregnant. I just don't think it's feasible that this small dog could cause the harm to this child that the mother claims it did.

Goodness that is terrible and if it was the Dog it would have been messy and I do not believe that the Baby would have still been alive either. This is so terrible and I hope they do not give the Baby back to her. His Life is ruined already, that is so awful the poor little Fellow.

That poor baby. Honestly if they are saying that the cust are too clean to be dog bites then she mush have gotten really high and took her anger for her husband out in her son which is really sad. NO child should ever get hurt in any way like that. That women needs her rights taken away and she should never be allowed to see her son ever again.

They definitely need to press charges. I think it looks to "planned", from how you told it, to be done by a dog. A little dog would not do that to a baby. It's just too MUCH!!!! I think this woman needs to be arrested for life!!! No chance of parole!

What a sick woman.. to do this to her baby and then to scapegoat the poor dog. I'm just disgusted that people like that exist.

Yeah I think she did it. That is just awful. There was another story like this on the news awhile back where both parents claimed the dog chewed their babys fingers and toes off. They checked the dogs insides and found out he did not do. You would think they would have checked this dogs stomach or something. The woman in question should go to jail and never get out.

I remember that other story as well. I didn't realize that they had determined that the dog didn't do it. What is wrong with people?!!!

I don't think the dachsund did this, that woman did this! Dachsunds are very protective of their family and probably loved the baby so much! The authorities already said the wounds look to neat for a dog to have done it anyhow. I feel sorry for the father of the child. He must feel so guilty for not removing his baby from the hospital, regardless of if he did the right thing, I know he must have tremendous guilt. If she is convicted of this, I hope she gets life in prison. She is sick! They need to lock someone like that up and throw away the key!
