If a woman is successful and intelligent, does that mean she will never become a battered wife?

Any woman can fall prey to a batterer. Most victims are intelligent, career woman that are confident and assertive in their work and other areas of their life. They keep the abuse a secret from their friends and family because they are ashamed of the abuse; it is something that happen only to other people...

Anyone can become a battered wife but keeping it a secret is not helping. If the abuse persists or escalate (the children are getting beaten up too), its time to pack-up and leave that abusive relationship. Getting ashamed of being beaten up is like a ticket to be beaten up some more. It's important for every women to know their rights, specially physcial abuse. Don't wait till your 50/50, fighting for your life in the hospital bed until you finally decide to take action. Be one of the lucky ones. If their are kids around, they might conclude that this is normal and let their own loved-ones beat them up too or worse become like them, a bully and a batterer.
