Does it really even matter when a response is marked best response?

I believe it does matter for several reasons, 1 reason is the person who is marked gets a "bonus" in earnings, their star if they have over 100 postings is usually upped if it's not already maxed out and it's a way to show kudos on here.

i usually give it a day or two, considering that not everyone signs in at mylot at the same time and the time difference between countries.
i also try to guage whether it will reach past 10 responses. as you have more selections, the better responses you can receive. now, there's more responses to choose from when selectig the best response.
when the concern is urgent and you need an answer asap, and you have seen a reply that made sense to you, you can already choose the best response from amongst the responses you got.
when the discussion is either a little slow to progress (less than 5 responses) or you received too many responses like more than 50 or so that's when you wait about a week or so to give your best response.
when i received more than 100 responses in one of my topics, i had difficulty selecting the best response coz i liked several of them. it's been 3 days now and i haven't read all the responses yet... i'm like 70% in reading all. to be fair with all mylotters who respond to my discussion, i really read each and every response and if i can add a comment i will, before giving the best response.

I haven't experienced having that many responses in one of my discussions yet but I'm sure it will get crazy on one of the ones I start in the future. Who knows maybe this will be the one that blows up :)
In regards to reading all of your postings I am the same way I do read every single post anyone puts in my discussion however I do find it hard sometimes to respond to everyone without repeating myself.
Thank you very much for your advice and point of view on things.

I use the rule of thumb to mark a best response after at least 10 people have responded. If it takes 3 months then I wait 3 months. I want everyone to have a chance to respond. I do know some people have family and referrals that they are going to give the best response to no matter what. Which is fine by me, I don't think our pay is based very high from the best response. I know it helps but at least it is not a big % of the final pay per post. I have given friends best responses to help with getting a higher star rating, so I can see others doing it too. I still think everyone deserves a chance before rating the first one. If you do not get many responses then you can use a lower number, say 5 before giving a best response. Some of my discussions do not have one marked only because there are so many best responses I haven't been able to choose. Some I want more responses so I am waiting. It is a good thing we have control of when and how we rate these. I do go back and give everyone a + if they responded and stayed on topic as soon as I read the responses. The best response just takes me more time and consideration.

Thank you and I think it should be given a little bit of time for people to respond and be given a chance to make their best thoughts known and get kudos for it.

Thanks but I think it's kind of unfair to some other people if some has like 10 postings and less than an hour in to the post and they have already marked someone as the best response. I think it's because they are too lazy to read more postings.
