I have been working with computers in the hardware and networking areas over six years now and not until nine months ago I have begun to become interested in programming in particular the JAVA language. What will be the future of JAVA and its impact in Information Technology?

Since you have been working on networking stuffs , choosing right language for your needs(applications) is very debatable ... Well, java provides you various API or library for networking too ,where you can ultimately program...
The question you have posted is good... indeed , debatable.
There are various other languages in market like C#,C++ etc..
but they have their own pros and cons..
Building a complex Application in very less time , then you cant choose c++ as such...
Any organization will look for rapid application development.
Time is the only factor they look for better , robust , and faster development....
JAVA as such will give numerous API's for everything ,, from enterprise to networking to mobile to wrist watches...
Which makes you simple and better programming...
Future for java will exit as good , neat technology....
Day by day java is getting better...
