how to make a lightsaber?

is it possible to make a real working lightsaber?
what would i need and what would the cosy be?

i seriously doubt it could be made.there's no way to limit the beam as they have it in the movie,short of having a rod perhaps inside of it.
technology isn't there yet.

Unfortunately, technology will never be there. At least not exactly as it is in the movies. A lightsaber is (supposedly) a laser. A laser is a beam of light, and a beam of light cannot be stopped in mid-air. It's impossible. The closest thing that could even possibly work anything like that is plasma. The interesting part is that scientists are already working on ways to control plasma in a concentrated beam (such as a lightsaber blade). The uses of this range from industrial (as a cutting device) to military (as a weapon). I just want a real lightsaber one day ;)
