if you have installed a proper software and if you update it often in the internet, then you need not scan even.. because it itself will find the virus and give you alert. you may just check once in a month. but it is generally a good practice to check one in a week if you download files from the internet(even if you have updated your virus scan). i had been using Mcafree virus scan professional. it is very useful and often keeps alerting you about PUP(potentially unwanted programs) too.

I think you should scan your computer every time you put in a floppy or cd.You should scan your computer for viruses and trogens every time you use internet.i clean my system regularly with antivirus but still i find many viruses and trojans after each usage.

It really depends on what you use your computer for. If you are online alot and swap software with others, you might want to do a virus and anti spy scan every few days. I do mine at night so that it doesn't interupt my computer time. As for quick clean, again it depends. You should perform it now and then as often as you feel it is nessecary. Also remember to optimize your hard drive at least once a month. THis will help keep things running smootly. You can setup most maintenece tasks to run on a schedual by using the task manager in windows

I should think that you would instal an automatically updating and scanning anti-virus, rather than having to do it manually. Since I have been using Avast, I have had little or no problem with viruses. If you must do it manually, however, you could preset it to do so at specified times such as at a particular time daily, weekly and so on.

A lot depends on how much surfing you to and what other websites that will serve quite often. Generally is a person serve only highs profile websites or of companies and what which he has information then his computer is not going to get infected with the virus that easily but if the person is trying to go to other sites which can have spied US or other revivals like activities than it is better for him to scan the computer every time he goes to those websites because the chances are that there that he may get infected from these kinds of websites. Also I suggest each and every people nowadays to keep a firewall in your computer so that it can prevent suspicious activities in your computer thereby preventing you from infection from any kind of violence.

i don't scan my system that much, about once every 2-4 weeks. this is because if theres is any virus on the system my antivirus will prompt me immediately what the virus is and if i get that message i usually follow it up by a full system scan to prevent it from affecting the whole system.

Never! I'm on Mac.
But when I was on PC I used to scan once a month, Norton is pretty effective although new viruses are fit to go against Norton, so pretty much for those I had to go directly against the virus, not always a pretty fight, but I always won.

You should use a background scanner if you don't use one. Almost all antivirus software have a background scanner. This will scan your system permanently. The most important thing is to upgrade every day the virus definition. The bad news is that even that don't guarantee that you will not have viruses. That's it!

very often! I'd say at least once per week.
last time I formated my PC, i made the mistake to connect to the internets to get a new anti-virus software BEFORE I installed my firewall... the equivalent of connecting naked...
It took about 30 seconds to catch a virus (creepy...). So since then I always get protection BEFORE I connect, and run a complete check every week.
