There is no anti-virus best because the performance of any anti-virus depends upon the virus definition. No anti-virus can detect all types of viruses. So you talk about speed then Kaspersky is better than others...

Hi marci3, we can be able to determine what antivirus software is very effective if we are going to examine and evaluate it with assessment. For paid version, you could try Kaspersky and Symantec antivirus. Both of these two are very effective in terms of scanning and detecting malicious viruses and worms. It does its jobs pretty well. For free version, you can try AVG, AVAST, and AVIRA. Currently, I am using Avira AntiVir Personal Classic Edition. I have been using this software for almost two years. Since using it, I have never had problems at all with regards to the overall function and system performance of my machine. Otherwise, I am so grateful, impressed, and satisfied with its performance. It automatically updates on a regular basis, and guess what, this can be scheduled at your most convenient time. On the other hand, it is very light on resources and does not use a lot of memory. Hence, does not slow down your computer. Otherwise, it does its jobs pretty well. By the way, it is very effective on determining viruses while scanning.
That's it.
Have a nice day!

I used to use norton antivirus but it started giving problem so i had to stop using it.best antivirus i used ever is AVG-Antivirus... its more secure to use AVG although i also used Norton and Mcafee and many more.. but now i am satisfied with the AVG antivirus... its absolutely free and the updates are quite easily updated without so much of time... and it gives the high performance for my computer. Many a times when i am sharing something in my LAN,,, AVG immediately detects which type of virus is this and completey wipe out the viruses... So i would like to prefer AVG antivirus and also suggest you to use avg instead of any other antivirus.

Personally, I use the AOL AntiVirusShield. Don't let the name AOL scare you. AntiVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.
In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, AntiVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.

AOL AntiVirusShield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources.
Free to anyone, AOL member or not.

I am currently using McAfee and i feel it to be the best Anti-Virus. As, i think that it is very user friendly is not at all complicated to use and it also does not slows down the working of your computer.
I earlier used Norton and Quick Heal antivirus packs they did slow dowm my coomputer speed and also they weren't anle to detect some viruses which McAfee did.
So, its the best.

This is a tough question. You see there are different anti-virus software out there that all of them had its own uniqueness when it comes to eliminating viruses. People will have different opinions about this. In my case, I've tried so many anti-virus softwares before and until now, I'm not still satisfied in neither one of them. Like I said, they are not similar with each other so your decision may be crooked at times. What I'm using now is ZoneAlarm Security Suite ver.7. It's good but it eats a lot of computer memory so I think I'll be going back with AVG.
