Are birth marks signs of luck....

My kid has a small patch , a birth mark near his neck. I don't feel very good about this mark because its visible all the time. The other day I read somewhere that these marks are known to be lucky. Few days ago I was told that the part often suffers from some decease where there is a birth mark. Now I am very confused. Does anyone here know anything about birth marks. Please give my your views.
