Our neighbor's dogs broke out of their fence yesterday and killed eight of our cats. Six of them were almost newborns. I can't decide wether to be really sad or really mad. This has happened before and I think they've killed one or two cats the last couple times. I think we should press charges. They destroyed our yard along with taking the lives of our loving cats. I'm so upset I think I'm going to give myself an ulcer. What should I do?!?!? What would you do?!?!?

This is horrible. I think you should definately report this dog. Why should the owners get away with this. At the end of the day they are responsible for the dog. This dog obviously has a killer instinct and it maybe a child next time. I can understand you feeling both sad and mad. I think the mad feelings will come first but the sad will definately follow. You have to report this.

Report it to whatever animal control you can! That is wrong, and bad. An animal that will attack other animals can very easily turn on a person and harm them badly. Ive seen it happen. Call your local animal control, dont even talk to the owners, and talk to A.C. Seeing the dog has done it before they should take him easily. Specailly seeing the owners arent providing proper restraint for the animal. If it broke a fence once, why isnt it tied up? Its not right, and not good. and i wouldent put up with it at all!

i feel sorry for you and your pets, but the best option here is to press charges and i do understand that the dog is also a pet and not a stray, so the owner (your neighbor) should have been more careful with their dog if the dog has killed cats or other people's pets before. why was the dog on the loose anyway? the neighbors have their own rights to have pets but if the dog is always loose and killing other animals, there is something wrong with the dog and should be put down. who knows if it wont attack small children. Do you know what type of dog it is? because i know some dogs , killer dogs like bulldogs, do kill cats.

They are half Rottwieler (Sorry I didn't know how to spell it and apparently neither did my spell checker) and half boxer. They definitely have a killer instinct and they have tried to attack us too even. They are big and scary and vicious.

OMG thats horrible, my heart goes out to you. I would definantly report it, especially if they have done it before. Press charges for sure. The owners should be held responsible. They also destroyed your yard, they should pay for that too. They just cannot keep on doing this. What a waste of some beautiful little lives. I am so upset for you.

Well, if I could do anything I would snap both of the dogs necks, but what you should do is press charges and have the does humanely destroyed, if they get loose again what is to stop them from killing children?

That's exactly what I think. What if they attack us or the other neighbors? They are way too vicious to be running around loose. Hopefully I'll get to press charges and if they get out again maybe I will snap their necks.

That is terrible! I would call animal control and file a complaint since the dogs did murder your pets and destroyed the yard. The owners should be held accountable.

It is time to take action. Be sure to file a police report and call the humane society to report the fact that the neighbor is unable to kkep the dogs in their own yard. If the fence doesn't restrain the animals then they should also be on a chain to restrain them. I have a large dog and when we go for a walk I use a leash. Only when it is late and no one else is out can I let him off the leash to run back to the apartment. If I take him to the school yard after hours he is good and leaves other people alone. His only true interest while in the school yard are the tennis balls that I am throwing. He lives for that. I take hime to a friend's house and he gets to run free there since it is a safe area. You have a right to be upset. Your safety and the safety of your animals are number one. Good luck and I am sorry to hear about your pets!

OMG, yes you should call the police and have something done with the dogs what if it was a kids or a baby out there. If it is something that keeps going on yes call someone about it before they get someone other then a cat. I am sorry to hear about your loss and good luck with what ever you choose to do.

I would definately press charges. If that dog can kill cats think of what would happen if a small child were to be in the area when it got loose.

I would do exactly what you had in mind : press charges. first of all, the dog has an owner and it is your property the dog was trespassing. second of all, it killed your cat and cause you emotional damage. Even worse, this is not the first time it happened. Your neighbour is careless, that's awful, you should report her if not the dog will go on do more damage!

Sounds to me like your neighbors don't care and cant control their dogs. They need a reminder from the animal control. Every time they break into your yard call animal control. if you can get pictures. because proof is always good.

Talk to the owner of the dog and suggest that they have the dog in close supervision or have it tied so it could just stay in their place and not intruding to their neighbor's place and even killing the another's pets. What if the dog instead of killing another animal would bite on someone which is could really be dangerous and fatal? If you really feel like pressing charges you may do so because sometimes some people should learn the hard way.

I think you should press charges, this is not something to be looked over. My family used to own pitt bulls, we did everything to keep them from hurting people or animals. A neighboor called the humane society on us for tieing them on cables ( 20 or 30ft long), they came to the house and told us they'd have to have a fence or they'd take all four of our beautiful pitt bulls. We built a fence knowing that it wouldn't work, pitt bulls are strong and resourceful they can jump high and climb. So naturally when they got out of the 6 foot tall fence and killed all the neighboors chickens we weren't surprised. They told the neighboor that if they hadn't meddled with our dogs to begin with this wouldn't have happened, and gave us the premission to tie the dogs once again as long as they were taken care of( not a problem). So you should definately do something about this, because you need redemption. I know my story looks like my opinion should be the other way around, however if this dog has done it before and they were not nice enough to keep the dog from doing it; you should press charges to the full extent. I'm sorry about your loss I hope that you find another feline friend to fill your heart, make sure you protect them from now on.

I'm so sorry about your cats, these so called neighbour's would feel my hands around their necks and the dogs a big kick up their backsides, if they can't control their dogs then the police need to be informed.

What kind of dogs were they? My aunt had her tiny dog eaten by two really mean dogs right in front of her. She couldnt do a thing! You should report it. That is HORRIBLE. They should pay. Something should be done. Dont let this go unsaid. I'm terribly sorry. I think I would die if I knew this happened. I mean most dogs I know DONT hurt cats they will bark but not eat/kill them. My cat excapted our house and the dogs next door just barked at her and scared her. All the dogs we have ever owned didnt mind cats too much. Barked or let them be. Ones in our yard or not. Not even my little dog would KILL a cat. Shes small sure. But I think she just wants to play with them chase them and stuff. SORRY AGAIN!

Sorry for your loss. This is something that could have been prevented. People who own animals should be made responsible for their animals action. You said this has happened before so their owners are aware that they do not have suffition restraint for their dogs. I would be calling animal control in your city and also reporting the dogs to the police. If a dog has that kind of killer instinct it isn't a far cry from killing animals to attacking people. They need to also take care of fixing your yard. It was their dogs that did the damage.

That is really horrible and your neighbors must be held responsible too. I don't know about your law there in the U.S. but I think it's universal that one should be responsible enough to make sure that their pets won't destroy properties. It could be cats now, God forbid that it may get at some children too. I suggest you go to the authorities to settle the matter because if you won't, it will certainly happen again.

although im not a fan of cats, im feel sorry for you, its totally unfair that the dogs can kill your pets, if this has happened before i would press charges and try to get the dogs destroyed, however this will probably cause issues with you and your neibours, but you get that, its an animals instincted to kill cats but its doesnt make it right, whos know's next time its may be a little kids.

Oh my God! Thats terrible! You need to report this dog as soon as possible! It's one thing having a dog get loose from time to time, but when it gets loose and then attacks and kills, it's classified as a dangerous animal. Why aren't the owners keeping an eye on it anyway? They could also get into trouble for neglect, for failing to keep their dog secured and watching out for it. Press charges as soon as possible hon. While it's too late for your cats, you may at least be able to help prevent this from happening to anyone else's pets. I'm sorry for your loss :o(

I can't believe what I am reading!! I know dogs and cats are enemies but I didn't know dogs will actually kill cats! This is indeed horrible, and more so since the kittens were newborn. This is just so wrong... You have to protect what's left. Have a court ruling issued on the owner of those dogs... build a higher fence... something... anything...
