I usually make a + for every one who responds to my discussions, but then thats just to please them some times I really have the urge to give a - but I dont wanna do it when I think that its gonna affect a person, Am I too soft or am I doing the right thing

That depends on why you would like to give them a negative rating. In the 3-4 weeks here I have only ever felt the need to rate someone negatively once and that was because they were rude and offensive.
If this is the reason, then you should rate them accordingly.
If I am unsure whether they deserve to be rated but it is not offensive, I won't rate at all! For example, I recently did a post about people only reading the headline of discussions and lo and behold that happened. I did not rate the person at all. What they had written was not offensive just not in context with the post.
I rate most people positive just purely on the respect that they have taken the time to respond. I may not agree with their views, but what is the point in joing a site like mylot if you don't want to read different views to your own!
I shall stop rambling now! LOL
Have a nice day!

I know that no one among us here will ever look forward to receiving responses which are not responses at all to our discussions. These are of course, responses which amount to nothing, this I will agree. Perhaps, there are really some mylot members who are just gunning for the money.

I very rarley give a -, unless the post is abusive or completely off-topic. If I just plain don't like the post, I let it go without a rating.

It is only proper that we give pluses. If you cannot give a plus, then leave it at that. Minuses are cruel. We know that the ones who posted those responses, most of them, did their best and gave their ideas truly. If they run contrary to your thoughts, I believe it is only rightful for them to have shed their thoughts even if you don't like them. There are so many of us here. It is impossible that we get only responses we can like.

according to mylot a - rating should be done only when response doesn't meets the required quality! so dont give a - rating to a discussion for simply the person has a fiffrent idea than you for example if a person starts a discussion that says about something that not in your interst ,dont give him a -.so (-) has some bad effect.it will cause your reputaion and earning
i usually rate if a discussion or response is some informative also i rate my responses to discussion as they got atleast 2 lines and some sort of description.i rate them as + and other leave no rating and i will add a comment like"please be decriptive as possible, thank you".

Hello Aryanbharani.....
Consider this......The people that post garbage, scams, spams, one word, or just plain worthless crap are paid the same as the people who write quality discussions......unless those crap things are rated negatively, reported and removed.
If they are not rated negatively and/or removed, is it fair for them to earn the same as the quality posters ??
As long as mylot is paying for crap, quality posters cannot earn any increases for what they write.

I only rate posts with minus either when they are not contributing to the discussions ("I don't know" is really annoying to me :) ) or when they are calling people names for no reason (they discuss the user not the topic). Else I either rate with a + if I find it a particularly insightful answer or I don't rate it at all.

I rate most people with a plus, too. I've heard people should do what they want done to them. I rate people a star, and hope others will do the same to me. For me to use a minus, the post would have to be highly offensive or against the rules. (I'll rate a bad post a minus after reporting it with the exclamation rating button) I even rate comments if I am going on a rating spree. Maybe I'll do one in this thread.
I hope to have a high 10 star when I get my first star.
