How realistic is it?

I just got done watching the movie Turistas. As movies go it was pretty average. But the storyline got me thinking. How likely is it that something like that could really happen? A breif overview of the movie is a group of tourists in traveling off the beaten path in Brazil find themselves in a remote island paradise and living it up, only to be drugged and robbed. Through a series of events they then find themselves held hostage by a "doctor" who is harvesting their organs for the black market. There is a bit more to it, but thats a basic breakdown. I am just wondering if things like this really do happen? I mean it seems pretty plausible. Part of the reason the "doctor" gave for taking their organs was that rich tourists come there and pay for them rather than waiting on the waiting lists in their countries. What do you think?

It honestly wouldn't surprise me a bit if something like this happened on a regular basis all over the world. As long as there are rich people willing to pay big bucks for things, there will always be some greedy immoral knuckledragger out there willing to do anything to get the cash.

Thats a very good point. If there is someone willing to pay for it, likely there is someone willing to sell it.

Yes. It was in English. My husband just rented it at the local video store on dvd, I think it just came out this week. And I think you are right, the world is full of greedy people, so anything is possible.
