Hi to everybody! When you start reading a book, do you read introduction first? I usually read it after I finish the story because I don't want to know anything that may influence me.

I don't really think that an introduction would give away details about the plotline, so I go ahead and read it. I read a book cover to cover, so I just chuck it aside after reading the book. The introduction would have no meaning to me whatsover after I finish reading the book, so I read it before commencing. It often has interesting tidbits of information for instance how the book came about to being written, what inspired the author into writing it and so on. I recently read 11 minutes, by Paulo Coelho, and liked the introduction as much as I like the actual book. In the introduction, Coelho mentions about meeting a family of book readers who love his writing. He goes on to dedicate the book to them. Writing good introductions is an art too, and I'm a critic of that, as well as the book!

I always read the introduction first. I like to get a feel for the storyline and characters before I become emersed in it.

Before i read any books, normally i will read the introduction first to get the whole of the story especially if i want to buy that book. At least i know that book is worth buying.

I usually only read the introduction of a book, when i am fishing around the bookstore with nothing particular in mind, in order to have a all around feeling of the book, if not,if I already know the author, or read something about the book, I rarely tend to read the introduction.

Usually, before I read the whole book, I start with the introduction. It gives me a brief sight of what I will be reading. In this way, I can already tell whether I should continue reading. It gives me a hint whether the book content will interest me or not.

I always read it. It helps me give a summary or a background about the book. Whether it will interest me or not. Sometimes i read the introduction and the last page of the book. Then i won't read the whole book. hehe! lol

Whether I read the introduction or not is based on how much I already know about that particular author. Such if I have read many of there books then I'm going to that book for a reason and if I can find the answer within the first 5 pages then great. That way I know the answer is in the book, then again their are many authors that barely tell you anything about the book in there introduction they just tell you the background of why they wrote the book which is nice as well because then I know if their life fits my current situation that I'm in at the time of reading. Please keep in mind most of the books that I read are knowledge books for information not fiction.
