how is linux different from unix?

hey guyz can any one xplain me the difference bw the linux and unix . i found the interface same in both cases....

UNIX is based on POSIX rules. Linux too follows these rules and this is the reason why Linux is called UNIX like operating system. I don't have any personal experience with a UNIX workstation but I think both these operating system provides almost similar functionality even though these functionality may be implemented in a different way. Similarly MAC too follows POSIX rules. So what is the difference between MAC and UNIX? Well both are developed by different companies. This is the case with Linux too. There are many more OS which are also called as UNIX like operating systems.

hey, unix is a text base OS which very powerful, linux is the same text base as well as a x windows , if you ask me i think linux is 10 time better then windows will every be... and its free you can download just about any linux os any where... i hope this is what your looking for and if you need any help finding a linux for you let me know -Milonix
