So which type of reader are you?

When you're depressed, do you read dark things to wallow in, or do you read happy stuff to cheer you up? When you're single and bitter, do you read romance novels as escapism or do you read "single and loving it" stories? When you're happy with life, do you read optimistic stuff to try to stay on the top of the world or do you read more serious things because your mood can take it?

If I feel like reading, I don't mind which type of reading materials I lay my hands on. It is important to keep my interest up with what I'm reading, else I'll find other things to do. I can feel good and never put the book down if the author uses a lot of funny descriptions. One classic author I admire in using humor is Charles Dickens.

I do both when I'm feeling down. When I'm in a bad mood sometimes I hunt down the fluffiest happiest story I can find. Other times, I think that if I feel bad, someone else should suffer to (I can be quite mean when I'm in a bad mood) so I hunt for stories with people who are having a worse time than I am.
I don't really have mood reads when I'm happy with life. I just read whatever I'm currently interested in at the moment. This can be happy, sad, or whatever.

When I am in a dark mood or when I want something to spook me, I tend to read Stephen King, Dean Koontz or Anne Rice, when I am in a lighter mood or need a good laugh, I like Janet Evanovich, Amy Tan, David Sedaris or Wally Lamb. I love to read and will try to read all kinds of books. I don't really care to much for romance novels for some reason...I just never got into them. I like historical novels like Gone With The Wind etc.

When I'm depressed, I usually cannot concentrate that's why I rarely find myself dug in reading books. When I'm bored and have nothing to do, I tend to see books and read. I just noticed that my moods do not chooses the books that I read.I read whatever interests me.

When I am depressed I usually do nothing for the effort to even read is beyond my limited energiy levels. Tv is more likely - less effort involved.

I read to escape, but I try to avoid depressing stories when I'm depressed, because the story will affect me so much more. I tend to stick to romantic chick lit, although I love reading intense book once in awhile. When I do read an intense story, it almost feels as if it's a cleansing. After I'm done, I feel as if I have been through it and survived.

Its funny that when i'm feeling down, like to read the negative stuff, usually those books on scandals, failures or disasters with no redeeming qualities aside from presenting the dark and gritty facts. I think i derived some weird gratification by knowing there are other worse screw-ups than me out there and then telling myself 'Hey, cheer up, don't do what the moron in the book did.'. Yeah, i can take all that.
