I know we all have and still say it? I said it more when my son was younger, sometimes now. I also say it when taking pictures of other children. Especially at my son birthday parties or special events with him. Do you find yourself either saying "cheese" in front of the camera or when taking a picture right before you click the picture button do you ask the person to "say cheese"? Ever wondered why you say it or why others say it? Ever thought of the history behind that saying?

I usually don't say cheese while taking a picture.Sometimes with friends we do for fun, nicely flashing our teeth.Lol. When we say cheese our mouth spreads in a smile like expression. That might be the reason why people say 'cheese' while taking a picture.

I don't think I say it when someone takes a picture of me. I do tell the person that I'm taking a picture of to "say cheese" sometimes though especially if they are children. I don't really know why I say it and when I say I don't really think about it. It's just something that I say sometimes. I haven't really thought about the history behind it though. That would be interesting to know how that saying got started.

I have no idea where or how it started from saying "cheese" when you take your pictures. I have been saying it and still do.Maybe its been around for many decades and there's no telling how long since its started whoever said "cheese' first must made the history.

yes, likewise, But I'll use it for the kids anyday when I'm taking pictures of them. My son and his friends always give off a huge smile with the infamous Cheese word

I used to say that when I was younger and having pictures taken but that saying is almost a thing of the past here now. People say different things like macaroni and cheese or say something else that is funny to get us to smile. I do not know the history of this saying but it definitely is not used as much now. I do not ask people to say this when I am taking photos.

I always hated this and thought it was embarrassing when I was little so I never did it. I would just feign it and smile. I lived in Japan for 4 years where everyone instinctual throws up the peace sign when a camera is whipped out, even a cell phone camera. I've even heard Japanese yell out, "Chiizuuu!" while throwing the peace sign. I still prefer to say nothing and smile. All I know about the history of cheese is how it makes your mouth turn into a smile. I don't know when it all first started.

Awwww...Chiizuu if I'm pronouncing it right doesn't give off that smile effect like Cheese does....I don't say it being a adult, maybe sometimes, but it's probably someone being funny about it

I used to say it every time when I was posing as a kid. I never say it now unless we are taking a family photo and the kids demand we all say it. My kids on the other hand say it every singlr time we do pictures.

Actually, I can smile without the word "cheese". Perhaps, the photographer saying that to you wants you to show your teeth and from that, you will appear smiling. But when I am the one taking pictures in the younger ones, I usually tell them to say "cheese".

I try to be different when taking pictures, especially if I'm taking them of kids. I'll tell them to say Pickles or something else that will get them to smile or giggle that will look more natural in the pic. It catches them off guard because they expect to be told to say cheese and they'll grin right at the camera. :D

yup sometimes. it is a cute act when everybody says cheese. it is like a sign that everybody in the picture is really bonded together. saying cheese is your own way of expressing yourself in a nice way.

I have no idea of the history of saying 'cheese', but I would love to know. I suppose it is the once word that summons up the perfect smile for a photo. I won't say it though unless someone asks me too first.

When I was younger I had to say it for school photos and stuff, it always made me laugh. All I know about it's origins is that cheesing is slang for smiling. I think it's an intresting tradition.
