It often happens happens with me that i feel shy to talk to new people around me. i keep thinking how to start. sentences like ..how are you doing...how's life...makes me feel outdated. Do you have something new and smart....

The best way to get people talking is to get them talking about themselves, if they are in a relationship, you could say so how long have you guys been together? How did you meet?
You could say oh, I like that sweater, where did you get it, or something along those lines. People love to talk about themselves, and try to ask questions, that dont have one word answers.

that's a great idea... never to ask questions which can be answered by a word or two. better to keep the conversation flowing. have something in mind to complement or be ready to atleast add up something after each line.

If you want to start up a conversation with someone new you have just met, there is an important rule. Ask something that bothers them, do you know they have a kind of an illness, ask about that, let people tell you all about it. And after a while come up with some sense about it. Compliment them about how they handle it. Give a chance to them to see it in a different kind of light. By that they think you are really briljant. Its easy to do. Just be patient enough to keep your mouth shut for awhile. It will surely pay off!

as for me, i always start with a hi and hello thing...then, the how are you comes up after. after then, there's a little time for adjustment, atleast trying to figure out what his/her interests maybe or knowing some commong things between us. then, later, words just come flushing out our mouths.
