OLTL....Cowboy Quits After 28 Years

After 28 years, beloved soap-opera veteran Phil Carey, whom One Life to Live fans know as billionaire cowboy Asa Buchanan – is leaving Llanview when his contract expires in April. "Phil Carey and Asa Buchanan have always been an important part of One Life to Live," the show's rep tells TVGuide.com. "At this time, Mr. Carey has decided not to accept the recent offer to appear on a recurring basis." Carey, who recently returned to OLTL after a rough battle with lung cancer, has played Asa on and off since 1979.

Argh. Why do all the vets keep leaving?? Hopefully his exit will be less....dramatic and depressing than Stuart Damon's over on GH. And hopefully it will be done in a way that will leave the door open if/when he wants to return. I've always loved Asa. He's such a mean old coot!

Well,Asa(Phil Carey) has been in bad health for awhile....But OLTL and Carey just can't seem to agree on a contract for him.....I just hope they don't do a recast,noone on this earth could ever fill his shoes.....It would be a waste of time to us fans

Oh, gosh, it would! I wouldn't be able to handle a recast. No one else could ever fill his shoes. It'd be like the recast Clint. No offense to new guy, but it's just not the same. I just can't make myself like New Clint.

OLTL won`t be the same once he is gone .
I have heard of this and it saddens me to see him go .
We s=all knew he was ill but who would have thought he would be leaving the show so soon .
He has been Asa for so long and an amassing Actor , he will never be replaced .
I wonder how OLTL will do after he leaves , I also wonder how the writers will write him out of the set .
What do you think they will do ?

The show will not be same ever again I have to say. It is like General Hosipital and the Luke and Laura thing. Boy I am still ticked off about that one. The need to bring her back full time and have them back together. I am soo sad over that one.

I used to watch OLTL everyday and Asa Buchanan was a favorite of mine. He is a very important part of what made the show a success. I haven't watched in a long time, so I didn't know of his battle with lung cancer. He always reminded me of John Wayne. It will be sad to see him leave the show, but he has been on there for a very long time.
