Well for me it's been a very long week. I haven't been here on mylot at all, which I missed a lot by the way. Instead I got to be in the hospital with bronchitis. Oh yes that lovely thing. At least this time I went in before it became pneumonia. Of course now though I'm behind everywhere :( which really is a pain. So now I need to go through all my previous discussions. I will rate everyone but sadly I doubt I'd be able to respond to everyone. Just will take too much time. For those of you who are having trouble with breathing do not take it for granted. This bug is nasty and sneaks up really quick. My allergies had kicked in and then I had come down with the flu. Three days later I was hospitalized and was on oxygen. I just now got out and I'm still not at 100 percent but I would have gone nuts if I tried to stay longer. So if you get this bug take care of yourself. Get it treated and don't put off going to the doctor. It can make a big difference.

Bronchitis, that is a word I haven't seen for awhile. LOL I used to get it every year during the winter when I lived up north (Ohio). But since I moved to Tennessee, I haven't got it. Now I get ear infections because my sinuses get infected. I'm glad I don't have to deal with the bronchitis anymore though. Every year was the same story, get a cold, get the flu, turns into bronchitis, and then I would get walking pneumonia. I know what you mean about the pollen, the roads are actually yellow down here, and my car is totally covered in it. This is one of the worse years I have seen for the pollen down here so far.

Thanks for your advise. I was actually getting ready to post a discussion about a cold I've been nursing for the past week when up popped your discussion on bronchitis. I don't think I have bronchitis, but my cold is nasty and I was getting ready to ask what others take to knock out a bad cold. I think I will post this discussion. Happy to hear your feeling better. LOL.

If it's in your chest pick up mucinex. It does work the best. They even gave me that in the hospital. It's expensive but it works. Get better and take lots of rest.

I can really understand your position brother. I am also a patient of Acute Bronchitis. I can understand that it makes you feel quite uneasy. Even though, mine is quite minor and I have never been hospitalised for it, bit I can understand that what exactly you are going through. I would also suggest the same thing to others that if you have any breathing problem, please take it seriously and check it with your doctor immediately.

I am glad that u are feeling better and is outof the hospital. I´ve had this a few times as well - along with pneumonia and it is horrible. Once i got it so bad that I actually have astma now and the doctors think that it is partly because of it. Anyway, glad to have u back with us again =)

An ounce of care, a pound of exercise, lots of personal hygiene and eat balance diet.More on fruits and vegetables will keep these sickness away. Remember, an apple a day keeps a doctor away. consult your doctor when condition worsens. take care

Poor baby, get well soon. I've only had bronchitis once and only a mild case. But my daughter and granddaughter deal with it a couple of times every year. It's not fun. Take your time getting caught up, you don't have to respond to every discussion. I'd rather forgo a response than see you have a relapse. Take care.

This two-legged Asthmahound Chihuahua thanks you the warning - I'll get the arsenal ready I'm glad your doing better and you are out of the hospital no worse than necessary - had the Big P once - it nearly killed me - a patient brought this bug 'home' with him from a trip to Europe - then SNEEZED All Over ME (like really nasty 'wet' on my smock - ewwwww) Get well, I'll light the candles for you!

Wow you can get in the hospital for it? I'm sorry that must be horrible! I had bronchitis in 2003. I didnt know why my 3 week bad cough wouldnt heal on its own. I still had medical back then so I went to the doctor and was told about it. I had to take several med's one to get better and not give it to anyone else (its contagious!), one for night time sleeping and even an inhaler cause I was wheezing in the chest. I never had used one of those. Its NOT fun though. My dad has the kind where he gets it often. Almost every time he gets a cough it turns into bronchitis. He had it at least once this year so far. Really sucks! Sorry again. Feel better.

Oh yeah if you aren't getting enough oxygen then they will admit you. Ideally you should have an oxygen saturation in the blood above 95 percent. Anything below 90 and they will admit you. When I went in mine was in the low 80's. I was breathing but the air wasn't getting into the blood. They had me on oxygen and lots of meds to help with the breathing. Once I could stay off the oxygen and not have the o2 sats drop again then I could go home but until then they were going to keep me. That is a big problem. Many don't realize there are two main forms, one is contangious and one isn't. The non-contagious one is more frustrating and like with your father often has it. The contagious one is sneaky and before you know it you have it. You get the flu and then to it and then boom pneumonia. It can happen really fast so if you have trouble breathing it's best to get it checked.

My partner suffers from Bronchitis from time to time too. He hasn't had a bout in ages though so he could have a flare up at any time. Here's hoping he doesn't. His Bronchitis was a huge factor in him quitting smoking, he started having trouble breathing and realized he was making his bronchitis worse by smoking. He quit right around New Year of 2005, and since then he's been fine. No problems breathing or any flare ups. I think a huge part of that too is where we live. There isn't a lot of pollution here and we know that to get away we just need to head for the mountains. Moving to BC was the best decision we ever made in terms of health.

It's the pollen here and other allergens tha get me. I would love to be able to move but right now not possible. I would love to find someplace with lower humidity, lower pollen and decent temperatures. I know asking a lot but maybe some day I'll get it.

Oh I feel for you. Every year in February I always get a good case of bronchitis, except this year my body decided to do something different and I was hit with pleurisy. I was down and out for three weeks, taking steriods and antibiotics to combat it. I hope you feel better soon.

Me too. Of course not having insurance or much money doesn't help. Thankfully I've been able to get samples for expensive meds they want me on. The predizone is cheap enough so I don't have to worry on that one but the others, oy it's a lot. When the med comes with a 10 rebate coupon you know there is a problem with the price.

There are many forms of bronchititis but the two main are contagious and non-contagious. So if someone has contagious bronchitisis and you go around them you can get it. My one brother had it a few weeks ago and was nice enough to visit. Non-contagious or chronic can be caused by asthma issues, allergies, etc. For me it's with the allergies. I've had issues all my life with asthmatic reactions but when I was in the North it was very limited where as down here it's far worse due to the pollens and other allergens. So my allergies kick it in and then I get the flu or contagious bronchitisis and that is all it takes for me to be a real sick girl. Smoking can be a cause but so can so many other things. I've known many people smoke doesn't bother them in any form but get them near a flower arrangement and they can't breath at all. So it's not something one can say for sure on.

It's nice to hear you're doing better now. Be sure to get plenty of rest and take care of yourself. I haven't had bronchitis in years, but I had bronchial pneumonia when I was 5 or 6 years old and had to be hospitalized. I know that bronchitis is nothing to mess around with, and I'm sure everyone appreciates your warning and the advice you gave.

I am glad you are home and getting much better. What a scary thing to deal with. My husband had bronchitis as well a couple weeks ago. He just finally stop coughing and stopped complaining about feeling like he couldn't breath very well. Thank goodness. Again happy to have you home and well.

I'm really sorry to hear that you've been so ill, lucky that you went into hospital so soon or it could've been so much worse. There are just sooooooooo many bugs around these days we all seem to suffer from one or another all the time. Keep yourself well now!
