How well are teachers trained in north America

I have recently started hearing complaints that teaching standards are going down. There were few examples where teachers were not knowledgable enough to teach certain subjects but still are allowed to teach. I am really bothered about this situation for my kids sake and for society in general. What do you think?

This is fast becoming a worldwide problem. For teachers to be incapable of teaching subjects presumably of their expertise, this can mean only one thing. Their college curriculum did not address correctly the need of being able to teach the kids properly. Surely because, no one can share with anyone what they have never acquired in the first place.
There is really a need to overhaul the educational system. I found this same experience when my kids were attending college. They complained about teachers who cannot teach math with clarity and, there were teachers teaching english wrongly. I was forced to explain to them things which are supposedly the teachers' task. Only to find, that they were marked wrong and got low grades because, it appears the teacher didn't find what I taught them to be right. Tachers who do not know their subject matters, oh, woooo. And to think that my kids are supposedly attending high standard private institutions!
Want me to give an example? Here's the simplest to demonstrate. A precedes words which starts in consonants, and an precedes words which starts in vowels. Therefore, it is a hour, a honor. You and I know that this is wrong. Go against what they teach and you are wrong. What enrages me more are the more important matters taught wrongly, I can't possibly show it here. As for math lessons, as one passes by a classroom, do you believe that it is only normal to hear a teacher say, 'Let's skip this thing about adding fractions, they are very cumbersome if your parents know how to do this, ask them to teach you how it is being done.' These are the commonplace teachers we now have. No wonder we are faced with more and more incompetent graduates.
