Hi friends, recently there has been a great stir in India over reservations for the socially backward in educational institutions. The situation is as follows:In India, Hinduism is the religion of majority of the citizens. The society is divided into various castes. For fulfilling their mean desires, priests in the past oppressed some of the castes. Last year, government increased the quota for these so called socially backward people in higher educational institutions. Now, here comes the catch. The government is not looking at the financial conditions of these people and giving them reservation even though they are now no longer economically sufficient and socially recognized. We are given a reason that similar laws are working pretty fine in the US, where blacks are given reservations without considering their current social conditions. Is it so in US??If you are from any country other than US, what are the reservation laws in your country, and are you satisfied with it?

In the US we dont have reservations just that all have the right to compete for the positions equally. That you cannot be denied for reasons of religion race or gender. Also diversity on campus is desired and that if it doesnt occur naturally then diversity will be enforced via courts for that diversity to be in place usually by affirmative action.
