Hi everyone! I have a problem, and I would like to have you advice on it. You see, I have a lot of difficulties to sleep. It takes me hours and hours to fall asleep, and I constantly wake up during the night. Because of this, I am always tired, and I can’t function normally. I feel week, and I constantly have headaches.
I decided to go back to school in September, since I only have my high school diploma and I don’t want to work in restaurants all my life. I want a real job. So it went okay for a while, but the more time passed, the more I started missing school days because I couldn’t get up in the morning. At first, it was about one day a week, then it got worse and it came to a point where I went to school about one or two days a week. So in early January, I stopped going. I notified the school, so they stooped my hours. This way I can go back without having to start from the beginning again.
I want to go back, but I’m still in the same situation. I still have a lot of difficulties to find sleep. I went to see a doctor about this, and he suggested that I use sleep pills. The problem is that I’m terrified about it. I’m scared that if I start taking those pills, I will become addicted to them. I don’t ant to spend my life on pills... But do I really have a choice? I’ve tried almost anything to help me sleep better, from relaxation techniques to respiration, reading, etc. Nothing works for long. Pills would be my last resort, but if I can avoid it, I will!
I thank you in advance for your advices, in the hope that I’ll be able to take care of that sleeping problem...

I am a easy sleeper, I can sleep at any moment as I usually do not have enough sleep. The moment I get to bed within 1 minutes I am gone to dreamland.
Recently, my doctor gave me some sleeping pill to help me to relax my muscle as I had an viral fever. He asked me to take it for 20 days and I follow his instruction for the first night. After the first night, I did not take it again as the night that I took the pill, I had a hard time staying awake the next days. I nearly doze off while driving and could not work at all for the next day.

Rather than depend on pills to treat the symptoms you should determine the cause for your sleeplessness. If you had a headache from banging your head against the wall, what would you do? would you stop banging or would you take an aspirin for the pain? There are many medical experts out there who can help.

I have had a sleeping problem through out the years and have taken many different kinds of sleeping pills. No matter what they tell you they are all addictive and hard to get off of when you start taking them. Also when you take sleeping pills regularly eventually you need more to get the same effect. They are a vicious circle I would not take them.

Insominia is cyclical. The more you worry about not sleeping, the worse the insomnia becomes. Since you've already tried relaxation techniques, I won't bother you with those. I would however, begin to journal your feelings and always add to your journal that you enjoy sleeping and that you are a good sleeper. This way you are reinforcing in your mind what you really want to achieve. Be patient with this method as it will take about a week or so until you begin to see your sleep patterns change. Also aromatherapy is very good for insomnia and lavender in particular works well to calm nerves. As for sleeping pills, you might just get the prescription from your doctor and keep it on hand as a last resort. I've used them periodically and it has gotten me the sleep I needed at my worst. The newer medications are non-habit forming and they wear off pretty quickly. If youfeel uncomfortable about that, then try something over-the-counter or go to your local health food store and ask them for a natural sleep aid. Good luck and I feel your pain.

I have been taking pills for this and they actually helped. Usually there is something causing you not to sleep though - are u worried, anxious or something else?
I was on sleepin pills for about a month combined with pills for depression. I went off the sleeping pills but stayed on the anidepresison and I never had any troubles sleeping again.
Today I am on NO pills at all.

i heard that your body tends to grow dependent on these things. i guess if you took in prescribed sleeping pills once in a while , like when you drastically need that sleep, then you may. but don't do it everyday. i used to have sleeping problems myself so i turn to listening to music coz so far that helped me a lot. slow music lulled me to sleep. sometimes i read books and slowly become sleepy coz my eyes eventually grow tired from reading. coz i noticed i had difficulty sleeping whenever i'm stressed or whenever i got a lot on my mind. maybe you just gotta park those thoughts somewhere and let everything go so you can sleep soundly. i don't know if you're religious but sometimes praying helps too, not only spiritually but it also helps you put your worries aside.
